Together in Education Family Update

Dear Lancaster Families

Our students, staff and families continue with remote learning, thank you for the ongoing support. The resourcefulness and dedication of our staff, and the resilience and commitment to learning that our families continue to demonstrate is impressive. A reminder to families to check in your email for the important form sent out on Friday.

We wanted to provide a few updates to our school community. Staffing season has begun and we have received approval for the organization of our school next year at 17 classes, this is an additional class due to projected student enrollment. We were also able to maintain our support staff allocation of educational assistants who help to support the learning of students in many ways. Please let your classroom teacher know, or contact the school by email or phone, if you anticipate that your family circumstances will change next year. If you have friends or new neighbours who have not yet registered please encourage them to complete their registrations on-line and contact the school if they require further support.

Planting season is almost near! Please be sure to to check out our Plantables fundraiser at plantables.ca and use the code LDPSGROWS. Plants, more mature than seedlings, are delivered right to your door ready to go into your garden or can be sent as a gift to a family member, neighbour or friend.

Jewish Heritage Month provides us with the unique opportunity to learn, share and celebrate the history and culture of Jewish Canadians.	Orthodox Easter, also called Greek Easter, is the principal festival of the Orthodox Church. It is the most significant religious holiday for the world's roughly 300 million Orthodox Christians. Happy Easter to all those celebrating today.

Eidul-Fitr is on Thursday, May 13, 2021

Eid al-Fitr is an important Islamic holiday for the Muslim community in Canada. also known as the Feast of Fast-Breaking or the Lesser Feast. It marks the end of Ramadan and the start of a feast that lasts up to three days in some countries. It is one of Islam’s two major festivals, with Eid al-Adha being the other major festival. Eid al-Fitr celebrates the end of the fasting that occurs during Ramadan.

Kid's Inclusive Resource for Educators and Parents

This site was created in collaboration between Occupational Therapists at KidsInclusive, Student Occupational Therapists at Queen's University, and Educational Services Staff at the Limestone District School Board. This project came out of a recognized need for staff and families to have access to information and strategies prior to considering an OT referral. The time between making a referral and receiving services can be quite long. Not every referral meets the criteria for OT services. An assessment would be completed to determine eligibility for OT services. We hope you find this site helpful in exploring some of these strategies.

ASYMPTOMATIC COVID TESTING AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS

Students are invited to participate in voluntary asymptomatic testing (no symptoms) for COVID-19 during designated times. Families must book appointments for students using the assessment centre’s existing booking process (online or by telephone). Walk-ins are not permitted. Parent/guardian consent is required for testing of students under the age of 18. This testing is only for students, staff and bus drivers who DO NOT have COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 must self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19 at a Community Assessment Centre.
