Teacher Appreciation Week
Next week, May 6 - 10, is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. LES celebrates teachers’ pivotal role in the lives of their students, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery. The IMPACT Ambassadors of the LES student council invite you to please help us celebrate teachers and our staff by participating in our days of recognition for them.
MONDAY
What is your teacher’s superpower? Write it on a star (provided here at school), and hang it on her door.
TUESDAY
Superheroes are noteworthy! Write a thank you letter to your teacher (or staff member) telling him or her how grateful you are (s)he’s at your school and why.
WEDNESDAY
Wear “Red for Ed” Day. Join your teachers as they wear red to support their students, themselves, and public education.
THURSDAY
Superhero Sidekick Day. Every Batman has a Robin, so dress like a teacher today and be your teacher’s teaching sidekick.
FRIDAY
Every superhero needs vital tools. Donate one small item to your child’s classroom. Suggestions include Sharpie, glue stick, Post It Notes, or a gently used book for the classroom library.
Thank you for helping to celebrate our teachers
alongside the student council IMPACT Ambassadors!
mClass Results
We have just wrapped up our final round of reading testing in the classroom. As promised, I am providing you with a summary of your child's results, and there is so much to celebrate!!!! As I've said before, the time I spend with each child one-one-one is treasured. Just observing their amazing progress with reading is one of the most rewarding things I do. For those students who attend the Title I reading lab, or "Book Club," you have a parent survey in today's folder to fill out for Mrs. Rothgeb. I know it is sometimes difficult to gauge your child's progress, but--hopefully--the data I'm providing you will help with your responses. Please return this survey as soon as possible.
Library News
Students have checked out library books for the final time of the school year. That means ALL BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED NEXT FRIDAY. We do, however, want students to continue to read over the summer. With that is mind, Mrs. Grissom is hosting a Buy One Get One (BOGO) Free Book Fair from May 13-20. Our classroom visits will be on Wednesday, May 15th and again on Monday, the 20th.
Field Day
LES Field Day is fast approaching on Friday, May 17th . We are in need of parent volunteers to make this day a success. Please call the school office if you are willing to assist.
Spring Pictures
Please remember that if you choose not to order your child's spring pictures, then they must be returned by May 10th. Similarly, if you have decided to order, money is also due on that day. You have the option of purchasing 1, 2, 3, 4 picture sheets, the complete picture package, or the fun sheet for $15.00. RETURN the remaining sheets to school along with your payment by May 10. You may pay online at Lifetouch's site by clicking here, or send payment to school with your child.
The Corner Market
The Corner Market will be open Tuesday, May 15th from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. at Union County High School. This food pantry is open to all students in our school corporation K-12 and their immediate household. There are no financial requirements and everyone is welcome. One visit per family. Please bring an ID. Enter through Door 21. Any questions, please contact Jennifer Brannon or Cindy Toschlog at 458-5136.
Gleaners will host a 2 hour distribution on selected days in June, July, and August.
Each family will be given 1 box of food and produce items.
Dates will be announced soon.
Next Week's Share Topic: Mother's Day
Mother’s Day is May 12. Tell us about your mom, stepmom, or other mother-like figure in your life. Does she have another job besides being a busy mom to you? What are her hobbies? A photograph or two would really add some spark to your share topic.
Speaking of share topics...the timelines were phenomenal!!!!!! The presentations that the students did of them were so entertaining. Trust me, this display of student work in our hallway has generated lots and lots of interest from those in our building. Thank you for your support of this at-home project with your child. You will never, ever regret the time you spend supporting your child's academic career.
