Pam Jameson - take a bow

There is this obscure state statute that mandates that schools must provide education records to parents/guardians within a reasonable timeframe, despite schools being closed for an extended period of time. Craig Cates, Director of Board Relations, is the designated liaison during our closed office periods.

Pam Jameson came through like a champ and provided progress reports as the behest of a guardian pursuant to a legal mandate that we provide within 8 days. Huge fist bump to Pam!

Happy Birthday and Happy Retirement

I usually reserve birthday greetings for the end of the Month. This Monday Memo will have an exception because Graham Pugh is retiring this Friday after starting with OKCPS on 1/5/1976, which will give him 40 years of service!

Additionally, Graham turned 69 years young on New Year's Day!

From all of us, here's to you, Graham! Enjoy making music and the finer things in your well-deserved retirement.

As we begin this new year, I thought the TED Talk provided by Robert Waldinger is timely and thought provoking.

2016 Mission Statement

During the 12-13 school year upon my arrival, IT Services Leadership worked to create the mission:

Ensure reliable access to beneficial resources and relevant technology to prepare students for school, work, and life.

Since the announcement of the Great Commitment, IT Leadership/Governance has engaged in a series of team building and mission alignment activities.

*Provide an infrastructure of products, systems, and services that supports district initiatives and expands the learning environment for students and teachers.*

With the new mission statement, most everything we do can be 'black lined' back to a product, system, or service. Our primary constraint will be funding and personnel. With those two items, we can do most anything. We will strive to accomplish the mission despite the lack of resources through innovation, offloading, and creativity.

I Have Shingles

Two days after Christmas, I had my first-ever breakout of shingles. I've been in bed on antivirals and pain meds since last Sunday. As such, I won't be able to join you on Monday, but will be in ASAP as I'm chomping at the bit to be back at work and starting a new semester. I'll also be in jeans and loose fitting t-shirts for a few weeks until the pain subsides. I wouldn't wish this on anyone :(
