The Panther Post

Weeks of April 11-29, 2016

Happy Spring???

The calendar says it's Spring and the end of the 3rd quarter, but it certainly still looks like winter outside! Remember Spring Break is April 18th-22nd! Hopefully, the weather will have improved by then, so that we can all enjoy our time off and come back ready for the final quarter of this school year!

This week is Report Card Pick Up/Conferences on Wednesday (April 13th). Conference times are from 11:30am-3:00pm and 4:00-6:30pm. Please make sure that you have signed up for a time with your child's teacher. This is a non-attendance day for students, but you are encouraged to bring your children with you to the conferences.

Also, please vote in the Peirce LSC election while you are in the building on Wednesday! Information on each of the parent and community candidates came home in your children's backpacks last week.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Our school website address has changed! Please now use peirce.cps.edu

Community Garden Spring Planting: Grades 5-8

Thursday, April 14th, 8:30am

1423 West Bryn Mawr Avenue

Chicago, IL

Hello Peirce Community!

You gave us feedback and we wanted to honor your concerns, so this year, we have arranged for several different planting days allowing children in all grade levels to participate! Please save the dates!

On Thursday April 14, 2016 we will have a spring planting day for grades 5-8. Ms. Kelly McGowan will be coordinating this event. The kids will till the gardens and get the beds ready for our early spring crops of Easter egg radishes, smooth leaf spinach, and lettuce!

We will need parent volunteers to help the kids with getting the soil ready, planting seeds, making seed markers (so we know what was planted where), and helping to keep everyone organized. If you are available to volunteer in the garden on Thursday 4/14 (Hey, it is a lot more fun than taxes!), please contact Ms. McGowan at kmcgowan6@cps.edu

On Thursday May 26 and Friday May 27, 2016 we will have our later spring planting days for children PreK-4th Grade.

We will need parent volunteers to help the kids with getting the soil ready, planting seeds and seedlings, making seed markers (so we know what was planted where), and helping to keep everyone organized. If you are able to help with the lower grade planting days, please contact Ms. Baumgarten at glbaumgarten@cps.edu.
