6th Grade Reading & 8th Grade Writing
All About Me
Dear parents and students,
Welcome to 6th grade Reading and 8th grade Writing!
I know you have many questions as the semester begins. You may be wondering: Will my teacher give homework? Will my teacher be nice? is my teacher smart? Does my teacher care about me? We will answer all of your questions during these first few days of class, bun in the meantime; here is a short preview about me.
I grew up in Halfway, a small farming community just west of Plainview, Texas. My core values and beliefs all began there in that small community on our family farm which I still hold dear to my heart. I believe in hard work, perseverance and learning from mistakes. I am still a country girl at heart, and have one dog, a Boxer named Raider. A sad loss for our family this summer was our other dog, Nikki. Nikki was a Jack Russell Terrier that I had had for 20 years! She lived a full and wonderful life, but she will be missed greatly.
April 5, 2016 my husband and I welcomed our daughter, Taylor, into our family. It has been quite a busy couple of years taking care of her and learning my fairly new role as mommy. I love being a mom, more than I ever knew was possible. We welcomed our son, Dylan, May 16, 2018. I can not wait to see what God has in store for our family. I am very busy, but happy.
I am a proud graduate of Texas Tech University where I earned my bachelor's (and someday If I ever get it finished my master's). This school year begins my thirteenth year teaching English and reading. I began my career teaching 10th graders at Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, Texas in 2005. I returned home to west Texas in 2009 where I taught 8th - 12th grade English, reading and theatre arts for 4 years at New Home High School. In 2014 I began a new adventure teaching eighth graders at Laura Bush Middle School. Last year I made the move to Abernathy. I am looking forward to this school year. One thing I am confident about is that I know first-hand the challenges you will face academically in the next four years. I strive to create lessons that are challenging and that will help prepare you for the the grades to come..
I think you will soon find out that I have high expectations of you, and a love for the subject that I teach.
It is going to be a great year. Welcome to my class!
