2021-2022 School Year
West View is Gifted in Global Studies
West View's most unique feature is a unique class that all students attend between grades one and five.
Global Studies at West View seeks to answer the question, What is Global Awareness? Being globally aware means building a value system that is flexible and open to other people’s cultures. It recognizes and respects that there can be more than one way to do something.
Teaching our kids to be globally aware can help make them better understand those who are different. The ability to work collaboratively amid diversity can help build a more peaceful and civil society. In a world that is becoming increasingly small and as it continues to become more interconnected, cultural understanding is important. With an increase in mobility, as well as technology, we are far more likely to come in contact with people of different cultural backgrounds than our grandparents were.
As a result, it is important to be mindful of other cultures and to help our children learn how to interact in a constructive manner. Our objectives to build global awareness in students are:
- Creating an understanding of one’s civic duties and rights from global to local.
- Developing the ability to respect and work with students from all backgrounds, cultures and religions.
- Making children more aware and appreciative of the world around them.
- Building an understanding of geographical structure of our world.
