Principal's Update
To address concerns about rising numbers I am attaching Dr. Ryba's email:
Dear SHS Parents and Students:
Last week I shared with you a video update asking for your partnership in reducing quarantines so that we can keep our students in the best environment for their education - at school for in-person learning. We don’t have to agree or like the current quarantine rules, but they are the rules.
We all have choices and those choices have outcomes. You can choose to get vaccinated and the outcome is you get to stay in school. If you choose to not get vaccinated - that is fine - you can instead choose to wear a mask and the outcome is that you will likely be able to stay in school. If you choose to do neither, the outcome is that each day you are rolling the dice to be quarantined and excluded from school for multiple days.
Unfortunately, when we compare our COVID data for SHS from this week to last week looking at Monday - Thursday data for each week, cases and quarantine rates continue to increase. In this pandemic, we have limited control over cases, but what we do have the power to do is to reduce quarantines by getting vaccinated or wearing a mask. We have that choice.
We will continue to monitor this data through next Thursday (9/16) and at that time, based on our data trends, we will choose whether further mitigating measures - such as mandatory masking - will be implemented to reduce quarantines so that we can keep students where they need to be - in school.
Sincerely,
Dr. Cameron M. Ryba
Superintendent

We continue to have issues with students destroying bathrooms in the building. There has been multiple times that students have destroyed sinks, put red dye, and broken equipment in the bathrooms. This has been a very big issue in the boy's restrooms. We have already caught a few who will be punished and families will be charged for damages. The damages to faucets with sensors adds up to almost $1,000 to the family of the students involved.
We will eventually catch those that destroy property and when we do there will not only be restitution made but these students will receive a 10 day suspension. The destruction of this property not only costs a lot to fix but creates safety issues that put others at risk. There will be zero tolerance for this type of destruction. Students filming this destruction will also receive a 5 day suspension.
I hope you all enjoy tomorrow when the Browns open the season at KC. It should be an amazing season!
