Band Buzz: October 10, 2021
Falcon Band and Color Guard

Key Event of the Week #1: UIL Marching Contest
Plan to come out and either watch or volunteer for the Region 17 UIL Marching Contest on Saturday, October 16th which will be held at our very own stadium. This is great time to invite friends and family to be able to enjoy the show at an event where the band is the entire focus! Look for an e-mail from Jennifer Gordon to sign up to volunteer. Here is the schedule:
8:30 am Rehearsal at the school
9:30 am Breakfast tacos
10:30 am Depart
12:25 pm Warm up
1:30 pm Performance
2:45 pm Return
Key Event of the Week #2: FBBC General Meeting
Join us on Thursday evening, October 14th at 7:00 pm for the FBBC General Meeting in the band hall. Key items on the agenda are the UIL Marching Contest, Homecoming Week, and the Gulf Coast Marching Contest. We will also have reports from our “current” and “upcoming” committee chairs: Community Spirit, Chaperones, HAT, Game/Contest Meals, Webmaster/Photography, Butter Braids, Hospitality (Events), and Poinsettias.

Gulf coast Classic Contest-All Hands on Deck!
Our district is the HOST for the Gulf Coast Classic Marching Contest on Saturday, October 23rd. Here is the schedule:
(Breakfast on own)
9:00 am Rehearsal
11:30 am Depart
Noon Lunch at stadium
1:55 pm Warm up
3:00 pm Performance
5:25 First finalist warm up
TBD Dinner
9:30 pm Finals Awards
10:45 pm Return
As you can see, it will be a very long day! We will need all of the “normal” volunteers to support the Clear Lake Falcon Band (chaperones, serving contest meal(s), hydration, pushing props and equipment on/off the field, plumes, etc.) Since we are the host district, each of the CCISD high schools are required to provide volunteers to cover all the duties needed to host an event of this magnitude. This year, our volunteer assignment is “press box duties” and NOT “spectator parking”! Our job descriptions: Scoreboard Clock, Stopwatch, Press Box Hospitality, Field Liaison, Elevator Monitor, Home Concourse Monitor. It sounds like we will be in the air conditioning and NOT in any danger of being run over! Here is a list of the 3-hour shifts:
7-10 am
10-1 pm
1-4 pm
4-7 pm
7-10 pm
With 6 jobs and 5 shifts, we will need a total of 30 volunteers. A link to the SignUp Genius is provided below. Sign up soon if you REALLY want to be the elevator monitor!! Reminder: All CCISD volunteers that check-in when they arrive for their shift get a wrist band which allow them into the stadium to watch performances throughout the day—a wonderful perk! I am not sure of the cost, but most contests have a $10-$15 entrance fee. Come to the meeting this week to ask questions and find out more about this event.
Gulf Coast VOLUNTEER SIGN UP
Homecoming is Almost Here!
Make plans to support the band as spectators or volunteers during Homecoming Week. If your student has younger siblings or cousins, they will LOVE to attend the parade for all the free candy being thrown from the floats.
Mon-Fri: Dress Up Days During the School Week (see CLHS newsletter for details)
Wednesday, October 20th: Homecoming Parade at 6 pm
Friday, October 22nd: Homecoming Game at 7 pm (Challenger Columbia Stadium)
Saturday, October 23rd: Homecoming Dance at 7 pm (same day as the Gulf Coast Contest) *
* Our prelim performance is at 3 pm. With the uncertainty of the schedule for the remainder of the day, it is difficult to predict if the students will be able to attend the dance. Even if they could, they might be too tired after a LONG DAY. Mr. Drake has indicated that band kids can just “come as they are” after the contest! We are in the process of figuring out if tickets need to be purchased in advance or if they can be purchased at the door. We will hopefully have some answers at our meeting this week!
Community Spirit News!
Many thanks to all those who supported the band by ordering from Fajita Pete’s last month. We received a check for $200 from this event!
The next Spirit Day will be with Chipotle’s. The date is TBD and will be communicated soon.
