WHAT WILL WE BE LEARNING THIS WEEK?

Reading: distinguishing fiction from nonfiction with a Jan Brett author study.

Word Study: January sight words.

Math: counting collections of coins.

Social Studies: our government--local, state, and national.

Writing Workshop: Middle of Year Writing piece to reflect upon our growth.

PARENT PARTNERSHIP:

As we continue to practice counting coins, you might see your learner drawing "hairs" on the coins to help them keep track of the amount and count on forward. Here's what those little hairy guys mean! Also, if you notice your learner is struggling with counting coins, encourage them to use the hairs. We 2nd grade teachers have noticed that it really does help! As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask!
