Welcome to Chris Shamet who was hired as a long term PE sub and will work with Mr. Allman starting next week Monday. Mr. Shamet is moving over from Westfield where he has worked as a paraprofessional for the last five years and will then take over full time PE duties starting on Tuesday, March 2nd. We will miss Mr. Allman as he finishes up his last week and heads into retirement. We look forward to welcoming Mr. Shamet into the building starting next week.
Parents a reminder that D13 is following the COVID-19 Exclusion Guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health which states the following:

Medical evaluation and testing are strongly recommended for ALL persons with COVID-like symptoms.
DuJardin School has had a recent COVID positive student and several close contacts. A "close contact" is considered someone who has been within six feet of the COVID positive person for a total cumulative time of fifteen minutes throughout the day. Close contacts of a COVID positive person must quarantine for 14 days even if they provide a RT-PCR negative test result.
5Essentials Parent Survey
Parents this is a reminder that the 2021 Illinois Parent Survey opened on Feb. 3, 2021. The survey window will close on April 2, 2021.
Link for parents to take the survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
A reminder to parents of fully remote students that if you would like your child(ren) to transition back to in-person learning (Group A or Group B) please notify Mr. Dwyer via email at mdwyer@sd13.org by February 26th. Fully remote students will transition back to in-person learning the week of March 8th.
OLSAT Testing
During the week of March 8-12 teachers will be administering the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) to in-person 1st-4th grade students. The test assesses reasoning and problem solving, using verbal (word), quantitative (number), and nonverbal (picture-figure-spatial relationship) symbols. The test is approximately 60-70 minutes in length, depending on the grade level. Test results will be shared with families. This test is administered to our students for the purpose of identifying the range of abilities in our district. It allows us to gather information on how well our programs match our studentsā learning strengths and needs. This information is valuable for our district-wide school improvement efforts. It helps us determine the best use of our district resources. The OLSAT scores are just one source of data we use to help us plan for student and curriculum needs. In addition we use teacher recommendations, classroom performance, Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores, and other classroom assessment results when making programming decisions.

Erin's Law
Dear Parents,
Child abuse curriculum lessons, otherwise known as the state mandated Erinās Law, will once again be conducted in all K-5 classrooms to educate students on safe and unsafe touches, safe and unsafe secrets, and how to get away and tell a trusted adult. Lessons will teach children how to recognize child abuse, equip them with skills to reduce their vulnerability, and encourage them to report abuse. District 13 uses a curriculum entitled Kids In The Know that focuses on teaching the above mentioned skills. Kindergarten and 1st graders will be receiving this instruction this month and then 2nd-5th graders will be receiving this instruction sometime between March, April, and May. Lessons will be conducted through classroom Google Meets so that students in person and students who are remote at home will have access to the lessons. Please remember that we want to respect all students' privacy during Google Meets and conversations are to be kept confidential.
As a parent, I would encourage you to discuss these subjects with your child. You may preview the Kids In The Know curriculum, by age level, by going to Kids In The Know . If you would rather not have your child participate in this instruction, please put your request in writing and send it to the school office attention Mrs. Treanor. If you have any questions about this or any other related topic, please do not hesitate to call me at 630-894-9200.
Sincerely,
Charla Treanor, LCSW
