Meet Ms. MaKenzie Rupert
School Counseling Intern
Hello Everyone!
My name is MaKenzie Rupert and I am very excited to spending the next couple months at Lakeland working with Mrs. DeQuevedo and the counseling program as their school counseling intern.
Here's a little bit about me! I'm from WIlliamsport, PA (aka the Home of the Little League World Series!). I graduated from Montoursville High School in 2011. I have Bachelor's Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 2015. I majored in Rehabilitation and Human Services, as well as two minors in Human Development and Family Studies and Sociology. Currently, I am in my last semester at Marywood University pursuing my Master's degree in Counselor Education: School Counseling PK-12, with hopes of graduating this May!
Why school counseling? After graduating from Penn State, I "took a year off" and worked in the human services as a foster care caseworker with kiddos from infant to 21 years old. While I was working this job, I gained more experience in the field working with various service providers. All of a sudden, I had a "light bulb" moment sitting with one of my kids in a school counseling office and I realized that my passion and experience was leading me to the field of School Counseling.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and Cooper (my 3 year old border collie). I enjoy watching Netflix, playing cards with the family, taking trips to Target or doing work at Starbucks. I bleed blue and white and love rooting on my Nittany Lions! WE ARE!
I am eager to begin this journey and meet as many of you as I can along the way!
What Do Interns Do?
Ms. Rupert is here to help address the academic, personal/social, and career preparation needs of our students! She will be meeting individually with students, running classroom guidance lessons, assisting with the already implemented guidance events (i.e.: College & Career Fair), in addition to all the other roles and responsibilities of a high school counselor!
Stop by the counseling office to see Ms. Rupert and introduce yourself; welcome her to the TRIBE; and show her how great it is to be a Lakeland Chief!
Any questions, concerns, or comments should be directed to Mrs. deQuevedo
