It's TIme to Get Back to Work!

I hope everyone enjoyed Spring Bring break. I know it has rejuvenated and reinvigorated me. We are in our crunch time before testing. I am trying to teach standards I know will be on the upcoming CST tests that we haven't yet covered. So, we will get back to busy weeks and hard work. Testing will begin at the end of April/beginning of May.

Because your child has been working hard, it is the time of year when they get tired. All year long it is important for your child get a good amount of sleep every night. It becomes just as important during testing to go to bed early and to arrive to school on time. It would be great to start NOW so your child is accustomed to an early bedtime and will not have to transition during the testing window. I know you may think that an early bedtime is only important for your younger child, but it is just as, if not more, important as your child becomes middle school age. Thank you for your support in helping your child have the energy for everyday school work and during the testing time.

Reading continues to be an important daily homework activity. Please help your child to find books to read. You can order from the book orders. I will be sending book orders in April. If you would like to order, please do so online or send the paper form. You can also find quality books at the Glendale Public Library.

Curricular Update

Language Arts: We will continue to read fiction and nonfiction selections to practice our reading strategies. Although we finished our poetry unit in reading, we will be writing poems to continue to practice these concepts. We had a vocabulary test on Thursday March 21, and we will have a spelling test next week.
Mathematics: We are studying TWO units at once. With testing coming, I wanted to be sure that the students had received instruction on both Unit 7 concepts of Probability and Unit 8 concepts of Rates and Ratios. We will have a quiz on what we have learned so far on Friday, March 22. We will wrap up the Probability unit and continue with the Rates and Ratios after that.
Science: Our next unit is Shaping Earth's Surface, Chapter 6. We just started and will begin lesson 2 soon about weathering, erosion and deposition.
Social Studies: Sixth Grade history is all about ancient civilizations. Ask your child about their history class with Mrs. Barnes and their India project
