Wescott Games Club starts September 27
Students will come together to make new friends while we play small and large group games, from board games to full group games. We will have tons of fun and laughs while we learn good sportsmanship, game strategy, and teamwork. Bring your favorite games, and learn some new ones!
The club will generally meet on Wednesdays in Room 139 (Mrs. Levin, Mrs. Coan and Ms. Karlin's room) from 3:20 to 4:20 p.m. beginning September 27 running 16 weeks through January 24. Due to school conflicts, the week of October 18, we will instead meet on Friday, October 20, and the week of November 22, we will instead meet on Monday, November 20.
Please note, completing the form does not guarantee admission. Mrs. Choi and Miss Karlin will contact you if your student is in the club. Contact Mrs. Choi and Miss Karlin with questions: pchoi@district30.org and kkarlin@district30.org

Wescott is offering an after-school, organized team sports club for 4th- and 5th-grade students. NOTE: The club will be held ONCE A WEEK on Tuesdays (4th grade) and Thursdays (5th grade) from 3:20-4:20 p.m., beginning the week of September 26. The club will run eight weeks through the week of November 13.
*5th grade- club will be canceled on Thursday, October 19 due to conferences, but rescheduled for Monday that week (October 16).
Guardians will be required to arrange transportation for their children from school grounds. Since crossing guards are not on duty, any student who walks home alone needs parental permission.

Hispanic Heritage Month starts today!
From September 15 to October 15, our country recognizes National Hispanic Heritage Month. This honors the histories, cultures and contributions of our students, staff and community members whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Throughout the year, our students learn about cultures that have shaped our country's identity. Among the learning happening so far this year, Willowbrook previewed Hispanic Heritage Month on Sept. 1 during the school's Friday flag raising and Wescott has a beautiful library display full of books by Hispanic and Latino authors telling stories all can enjoy.
Next month, Maple's 8th Grade Spanish students will take part in a field trip to Chicago's Pilsen neighborhoo. They will experience authentic food, visit the DÃa de los Muertos exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art, and view the amazing and historic murals nearby. Students are encouraged to speak in Spanish with the community members they encounter.
See student work display at Northbrook Court!
Out and about this weekend? Make sure to stop by Northbrook Court to see the brilliantly creative work of our Wescott 5th-graders created last year in 4th grade, now on display! Wescott & the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce collaborated to showcase our future entrepreneurs and their ideas of what businesses they would like to see in town. Great work, Wolves!
Wescott pet policy
Please know that dogs are not allowed at Wescott School during school hours and during drop-off and pick-up times. This is for the safety and comfort of all of the children and adults.

Book drive runs Sept. 11-22
In conjunction with our annual Book Fair, Wescott School is hosting a children’s book drive to benefit Bernie’s Book Bank. With a goal of distributing books to 25,000 more children this year, they urgently need books.
Reading is the single most important skill a child needs, yet many children lack access to books, especially books of their own. If you’re a child born into a middle-class family in this country, you have an average of 13 age-appropriate books in your home. But if you’re a child born into less fortunate circumstances, you have one book to share with 300 other children in your neighborhood.
Bernie’s Book Bank provides free quality books for children to build personal libraries. Since 2009 they have distributed more than 24 million free books.
We ask that you consider donating new and gently used children’s books (birth-6th grade reading level). Children’s picture books, board books, recent non-fiction, and chapter books are all appreciated. PLEASE NOTE: Bernie’s Book Bank cannot use activity books, coloring books, dictionaries, textbooks, religious books, or foreign language books other than Spanish.
Please help us achieve our goal by donating gently used children’s books Sept. 11-22 to the collection bins located in the Wescott foyer and outside of the Book Fair.
Let's stay connected
Dear Parents,
Please, take a minute to visit the Parent Portal website and verify that your contact information is up to date. This will ensure we can stay connected when it matters most.
Student Services meetings
Parent/guardian meetings return to in-person
In the 2023-24 school year, the Student Services Department will return to in-person meetings. All meetings related to special education (Domain Reviews, Eligibility Determination, and IEPs) and 504 Plans will be in person at your school. If a parent requires a remote option, we can arrange meetings over Zoom. Thank you, and we look forward to returning to face-to-face collaboration in person with our families!

Health exam requirements
For all students new to District 30, state regulations require a State of Illinois Health Examination Form completed within the last 12 months. This must be on file in the health office prior to the first day of school. If your child does not have a Health Examination Form on file with all current immunizations, your child could be excluded from school.
Kindergarten students are also required to have a completed State of Illinois Eye Examination Form by October 15. The exam must have been performed on or after August 23, 2022, one year from the start of school.
Dental examinations are required for all kindergarten and grade 2 students. Examinations must be completed within 18 months of the May 15, 2024 deadline. These forms can be obtained from the health office and are also available on our website. If you have questions, please call the front office at 847-498-1090.
If your student requires medication or a health care plan, please click here to download all of the necessary forms. If forms are not completed by the opening of school, we will abide by the health care plan from the previous year for those students with life-threatening food allergies or medical conditions.
Make a difference
The Wescott Helping Hands Committee is collecting pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House. The pop tabs will be recycled and the money is used to help support the families that stay there. Students can bring their pop tabs to their teachers for collection. Classes are collecting pop tabs all year long!
