Three is in the Books!
We are in the routine now! We have completed three weeks of school and scholars know their routines! I can't believe that August will be wrapped up this week! It seems like just yesterday we were sending out school supply lists. Now we are gearing up for FALL athletic seasons to be in full swing and Homecoming!
I want to personally invite you to first Parent University event of the year, Coffee and Conversations Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 AM. This is a very informal event where I will give you a little background on middle school and take you on a building tour, including classrooms. This is a wonderful opporunity for our current 5th grade parents to see what #LifeInAMiddleSchool is all about. We will have several more opportunities like this throughout the year to showcase the ELITE work that goes on at BCMS!
As always, thank you for partnering with us to make the MIDDLE YEARS ELITE!

#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5) WIN!
WIN time Works!
How you can support WIN time at home:
We are proud to offer WIN time daily to our scholars to grow a culture of readers!
1. Encourage reading at home!
2. Help your child find a great book
3. Go to the library
4. Get on your iBooks and download samples of some classics! I just downloaded James and the Giant Peach by Ronald Dahl!
5. Do a read aloud together!
We can't wait for you to see our NO STRINGS ATTACHED reading inside our #LittleFreeLibraries
If you have books to donate, please bring them to the main office!

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)
We had a great week at Bryan County Middle School.
The peeks of the week are listed under our "weekly updates" tab on our website. We hope you are finding this information helpful in keeping up with the day to day of your child and what they are doing at school.
GMAS reports have gone home in some classes and will be going home in other classes this coming week. In 6th adn 7th grade, scholars took the GMAS in ELA and MATH. They will have an Achievement Level Descriptor score (1-4) in each area.
1- Beginning Learner
2- Developing Learner
3- Proficient Learner
4- Distinguished Learner
We use this data for a variety of things, including placement in classes. But we also know, this test DOES NOT tell the whole story. Please continue to work with your children to help them be the very best they can be everyday! The goal is to get every child at BCMS to a Level 3 or above!
This year, as part of our PBIS model, we are working on a new skill:
E+R=O
I hope you have noticed the posters and visual reminders around our school. E+R=O is a simple skill. The E stands for the event (what happend), the R stands for how your resonded (your action) and the O stands for the Outcome (what did you get). We are helping our scholars to think about E+R=O in every situation. Our goal is to help our scholars begin to see and understand that the better their R is, the better thier O will be!
PLEASE sign up to use Powerschool. PowerSchool is our grading and infomation communication system. Sign up is EASY! Stop by the front office and we will get you signed up and get you a log in. You can use it on your phone and from an app! Never wonder again about missing work, upcoming work, or grades! It's all at your fingertips in Powerschool!
Homecoming is very early this year! We have Homecoming Dress Up Days ready to roll out! We want everyone to come out to our Homecoming Game Thursday September 6th and our Varsity Homecoming game Friday September 7th
Also new this year: Each class will have a "Kindest Redskin" class representive for the game. Voting will be done in classes and the selected Kindest Redskins will be announced on Tuesday September 5th.
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! Please know that if you have a concern or if you hear something that doesn't feel right, contact me! eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630 (Cell).
This will be an ELITE year!
