National School Counseling Week 2021 (Feb. 1–5) highlights the essential contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and the tremendous impact they have in helping students achieve school success as well as form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviors. At Wylie High School we are grateful for time, effort, and care they put in with our students day in and day out.

celebrating black history month

The greatness of our country is a result of culminating ideas from different races and nationalities. For years many accomplishments by black Americans were overlooked in our nation’s History books. Black History Month has put a deserving spotlight on many of these people that now serve as role models for today’s generation and generations to come. This is a time to remember the importance of respecting all people regardless of differences.

Coach Little - Big Honor

Coach Peyton Little was named as one of the top 100 greatest players in UIL Girls Basketball history! Peyton graduated from Wylie in 2012 and led her team to back-to-back state championships! She had a very successful collegiate basketball career and then played in a semi-pro league in Melbourne, Australia. Thankfully, she is back here at Wylie and has been a coach for our girls' basketball program since 2019. We are very proud of you, Coach Little! What an amazing honor! VFW Teacher of the Year

Congratulations to Mrs. Teela Locker! She has been named the Teacher of the Year by VFW District 8. Mrs. Locker received this award for her work in the classroom and her devotion to our Student2Student program.

S2S Meeting

The monthly S2S meeting is this Thursday, February 4th at 7:30 am in Mrs. Harrison's room (418). We will talk about a Valentine's party, our last bathroom painting, and upcoming events in April. Please make plans to attend!

DEbate district title

The Wylie High School debate team competed at the District 4- 5A Policy Debate Meet on Thursday. Mia Dole and Branden Hollers placed 5th, Noah Majkowski and Garrett Jones placed 3rd, Caleb Speights and Brendan Hurt placed 2nd, and Kade Killion and Josh Mehaffey placed first winning Wylie's first district CX title since 2007. The policy debate team will compete in the 5-A District CX debate meet on Thursday for a chance to advance to the state championships. Kade and Josh will advance to the State Tournament in March.

Wylie was second sweepstakes in the 5A/6A division at the Red Raider Classic Academic UIL Meet. There were 14 schools in that division. Check out WHS's results below!

La-La-La... Wylie Choir Scales Ratings

2021 CHOIR UIL SOLO & ENSEMBLE REGIONAL CONTEST RESULTS: Wylie High School Choir students competed in the Regional UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest on January 30. The following 14 students earned a Class 1 Division 1 rating and will represent Wylie at the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest later this spring:


Chandler Boatright, Faith Brent, Danielle Conners, Dakota Daniels, Abrianna Flores, Trystan Harris, Mark Huffines, Jenai Johnson, Jett Long, Emily McKinney, Keira McMillan, Emy Pablico, Tennley Wilson.

Pre-ACT Sign Ups

The Pre-ACT is a test that helps students prepare for college entrance exams. Students who take the Pre-ACT will experience the time management required for the ACT and will see what areas they need to work on before they take the actual college entrance exam. Registration for the Pre-ACT begins Thursday, January 28th and extends to Wednesday, February 10th. Freshmen and Sophomores who wish to take the test must register in the counselor’s office with Mrs. Henderson and there is a cost of $14.00 to the student. The Pre-ACT will be given on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 9:00 AM.

Project Graduation needs YOU to sell more draw down tickets for the car giveaway in order to make money for Project Graduation. You can pick up tickets to sell from Mrs. Hughes in room 403.

This year, we will honor 12 Big Country teachers for the positive impact made on their students’ lives. You can nominate a teacher HERE! Each honoree is given a designated week in which he or she is honored by

the media partners in the following ways:


• Featured on KTXS in a 6 o'clock news story and a 30 second commercial that runs during the week on KTXS.


• Featured guest during Wake Up Country on KEAN 105 with Rudy Fernandez.


• Their picture along with their story about their inspiration for becoming a teacher appears in Hispanic Life.


• Featured billboard on LAMAR Billboards around Abilene.


• Receive $100 check and a brand new car to drive for two weeks, courtesy of Arrow Dealerships.


• Prize from KEAN 105, KTXS, Arrow Ford Dealership, Hispanic Life Magazine, Communities in Schools of the Big Country, and Exceptional Brands.


Prize packages have been modified to follow local, state, and CDC guidelines regarding covid-19. The health of our educators and students is our top priority.

Have you caught a student or a WHS staff member "Being a Bulldog"? We want to hear about it!

What is being a Bulldog? The American Kennel Club describes a Bulldog as kind but courageous, full of tenacity, friendly, and loyal companions. It is fitting that we are the Wylie Bulldogs because those are the qualities we strive for our campus to exude.

We believe that it is important to recognize those that are examples of kindness, friendliness, loyalty, and courage. Students and staff members can be nominated by students, staff, and community members. It is the hope of WHS that Bulldogs will inspire other Bulldogs to continue to show these characteristics. Nominate someone here!
