Principal's Message

Sabre Families,

We hope you had a good May long weekend!

Being an Oilers fan and the spring weather in Alberta has many parallels with the highs and lows...

Here we go! We are very excited to see our students again back in classes as we wrap up the final month of the school year. We know that transitioning from in-person instruction to online and back again has not been easy for our students, and parents for that matter. Being back in classes will allow the opportunity for our students to receive additional support should they require, submit outstanding assignments, and get caught up should they need. A huge kudos to our Sabres during the recent online learning. The vast majority were engaged in their learning and our collective student attendance was outstanding.

Having said that and to reiterate messaging we have tried our best on being intentional since the beginning of this school year, please communicate with administration and guidance should you have questions or concerns about the return to school and additional support your child may require.

We are holding Parent Teacher Interviews on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. This is another opportunity to meet virtually with your child’s teacher. Bookings will open on Thursday, May 27 at www.schoolinterviews.ca with booking code 495bh. Bookings will close at noon on May 31, 2021.

Covid -19 Rapid Testing Program:

As mentioned, we are excited to have students back at school and learning in person. Our hope is with the declining COVID-19 cases in the community, in-school classes will continue with minimal disruption over these final four weeks.

To that end, Alberta Health Services (AHS) has selected SAL as one of its school sites to offer the COVID-19 rapid testing.

Testing is available to all asymptomatic students and staff who’ve not tested positive for the virus in the past 90 days. Participation is voluntary, and students 17 years and younger must have prior written consent from a parent or guardian before they will be tested. Students who are 18 years and older can sign their own consent form.

While we’re still working out the specific details with AHS, the school expects to start testing on May 27, 2021. Included below is the information sheet about the COVID-19 rapid tests and a consent form. Permission forms will also be available in the office on May 26 and need to be signed and returned by May 27, 2021.

Again, the program is voluntary and you can withdraw consent at any time. AHS will not test your child without a signed consent form on file. Please find attached further information below along with the consent form.

If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly.

Have an excellent week everyone,

Sunny Sandhu
