Principal's Perspective
WELCOME BACK!
Dear Horicon Families,
We are so excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year. We are looking forward to a great year of creating memories. It was wonderful to see so many of you at open house. Students were busy organizing their desks and checking out the classroom. There was so much excitement as students had a chance to see old friends and meet their teachers. If you have not yet completed online registration, please do so right away. Students need this in order to use school technology and participate in walking field trips. Please contact the school if you have any questions about the registration process.
It was wonderful to see students showing independence and responsibility on the first day of school! They did a great job of finding their classrooms and getting ready for the day. We also will continue to have staff stationed in the halls to help students if they forget their way. Our first days have been full of learning and community-building activities. Students have opportunities to learn more about each other and discover common interests. This is a great way to build a positive community and help students see that they all have special gifts to share. The importance of showing kindness and respect is emphasized throughout the day. As students get back in the swing of things they are learning and remembering school routines.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year at Horicon Elementary. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher.
Sincerely,
Lisa Sawyer

PTO News
Attendance Matters!
It is not surprising that student learning suffers dramatically if students are not in school. Whether the absence is excused or unexcused, missing a day of instruction has a negative impact on learning.
As we start the school year, let's create and maintain the habit of daily, timely attendance -- getting to school and to each class on time. If you need help with getting your student on track with attendance, please take a look HERE, and of course, be in touch with us so we can work together.
Wisconsin state statutes limit the number of days a student may be out of school. That limit is 10 days. Excused absences count toward that 10-day limit. If we see a reason for concern regarding your child's attendance, we will contact you to figure out how we can work together to solve that concern.
If you need our help, please let us know. With only 170 days of school, we need to make every one of them count!
