September 2017
Welcome Back
We have been off to a great start in the Library Media Center! We have been reviewing procedures and routines. We also celebrated Dot Day! This event is based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. See the pictures below for examples of our activities. To learn more about our Dot Day activities check out the HES Media Center blog for a post. Black-Eyed Susan Books
The Maryland Association of School Librarians have some great books nominated for the children's choice award for Maryland. Students in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade can read the selected picture books. To show that students have read the books, students have to answer a few questions about the book. Once they have answered the questions they can sign the poster in the hallway. There are chapter books and graphic novels for 4th and 5th Grade students to read. To show that students have read they book, they can log on to Destiny, find the link and fill out the Google Form. This form asks them to share some information and their opinion about the book.
For all levels, if the student reads five or more books and answers the questions or fills out the form, he/she can get their picture up on the Black Eyed Susan Wall of Fame. Also students will who are on the Wall of Fame will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite book.
Students will be able to start checking out the Black-Eyed Susan books towards the end of September. Below you will find links to the lists of books.
Scholastic Fall Book Fair
The Fall Scholastic Book Fair is coming in October! The dates are October 19-27, 2017. At the beginning of October be on the lookout for All for Books information. This is a great program that helps put books into kids hands. The flyer that highlights titles will be coming home soon after October begins.
HES Media Center Blog
The HES Media Center blog will soon have a new post up about our activities for Dot Day. There is more in depth descriptions about the activities for each grade level. Another post that is up is all about September being Library Card Sign-up Month. If you don't have a public library card now is a great opportunity to sign up. All the links to the public library are on the blog.
