Defer Dragon's Burning News
September 2, 2020
From the Principal
Dear Defer Families,
We want to thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the current school year’s logistics. Our staff worked tirelessly this week to prepare for an amazing remote start to the year. Classroom teachers emailed additional information about the first day of school this week as well. The Defer Staff is excited to welcome all students to the 2020 -21 School Year! Before school starts on Tuesday, we would love for you to share our reading of Not Your Typical Dragon with your child. Each one of us brings our own strengths and talents to our school community!
On Monday, September 14th, in the afternoon and into the evening, our staff will be available outside of Defer to do a socially-distanced “Meet and Greet” as an opportunity to meet their students and give them important school materials. Our first two weeks of school will be a soft start focused heavily on building strong relationships. We need to learn about your child and get to know them in order to support their social, emotional, and academic needs this school year. This event will allow students to see their teachers and pick up important supplies needed within the first month of school.
Safety is a top priority during the material pick up on September 14th. All participants will be required to wear a mask and adhere to a minimum of 6 feet of proper social distancing. Students must be accompanied by an adult (parent, guardian, neighbor, babysitter, etc.). Tables/stations will be spread out around the Defer Front Lawn area by grade level.
We have assigned blocks on September 14th, based on last names:
Last names A-M 12:00- 1:30 pm
Last names N-Z 2:00- 3:30 pm
Open 4:30- 6:30 pm
The open evening slot is for any family that cannot make it during the day. We cannot, however, guarantee that every teacher will be available during the open evening pick up due to family/personal scheduling conflicts. If a family cannot make the pickup at all, we will arrange a safe pick up after the 14th in the Defer office. You will receive an email with that information after the 14th if your items were not picked up.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me, rheauml@gpschools.org. We are looking forward to working with all of you during the upcoming school year!
Thank you,
Dr. Rheaume

Important Reminders
Online Registration Through K-12: Online K12 registration will be available beginning August 20, 2020 and should be completed prior to August 31st. Click HERE to access K12 registration. Much of our communication will be sent out via email, phone, and text messages.
Please make sure contact information is correct.
Material Pick-up: An adult or family member must accompany their student to pick-up materials. Social distancing protocols will be in place and followed. Please wear masks while picking up materials on school grounds.
If your child needs a Chromebook, please use the link Chromebook Distribution for Families
In an effort to mitigate risk and follow safety protocols, we are not going to take school pictures during the registration process or during the picture days. For the 20-21 School year we will 'roll' 2019-2020 student pictures forward into 2020/2021 Mistar. If you would like to upload a picture of your child, directions will be included within the 2020-21 Pre-Registration online documents.
While students who elected the OneGP Virtual school may receive additional or slightly modified information, you are still part of our school community. OneGP Virtual elementary school students will be completing online registration and materials pick-up at their home school. We are working together to finalize all of the details for OneGP Virtual students. Families will be contacted by Dr. Delgado (coordinator of OneGP Virtual) soon regarding these details.
