November 2nd wraps up the 1st quarter. Progress reports will be sent home the following week. Scheduled conferences will be scheduled based on the needs of our students. We encourage all families who would like to conference with their child's teacher(s) to please come by during our drop in hours which are posted below. Bandon High School athletics are off to an exciting start for the 23/24 school year! Volleyball had a great season making it to state for the first time in eight years! Although they lost to Salem Academy this past Saturday, we are still so proud of their hard work and accomplishments.

Aiden Wallace and Bradley Cook participated on our co-op soccer team at Pacific High School this year. The league champs got to host the first round of the state tournament at Pacific on Wednesday, against Riverside. It was a tough game and the Pirates unfortunately didn't get the win meaning their season came to an end. We are super proud of their hard work, and are thankful that our Tigers were able to join the Pirate team this year.

Both the boys' and girls' Cross Country team qualified for state which will be held at Lane Community College tomorrow. The boys' race will start at 10 AM with the girls' race to follow starting at 10:35 AM.

Football will be on their way to Heppner for the first round of the state tournament. The team will travel up today to play on Saturday at 1:00 PM.

Good Luck to our Cross Country and Football team this Saturday and congratulations to soccer and volleyball for an awesome season!

Shoutout to our Cheer Team and coach Ms. Pearson for all their fun and exciting cheer performances they've been doing all fall during the home football games! Having a cheer team has been great at hyping the student and fan section up during games!

On Wednesday, Mr. Weston and Mrs. Hawthorne took 40 students to the Les Misérables musical that was held at the Hult Center in Eugene. For many of our students this was their first time attending a musical!

On Wednesday, Mr. Weston and his choir students went to Southwestern Oregon Community college to perform in their first festival this school year. The students had a great time, and did very well!

Are you interested in applying for the National Honor Society? Candidates must be 10th-12th grade, have a 3.5 or better combined GPA, and have over 15hrs of documentable volunteer/service work. See Mr. Taylor for applications.

BHS Students, Join the Interact Club! It's a club that partners with our local Rotary and works to do service in our community. Our motto is "Service above Self." Our first official meeting of this school year will be on Wednesday, November 1st and as an incentive to potential members, we will be serving PIZZA. Please sign up with Ms. Hawthorne in room #2 to let us know if you plan to attend this first informational meeting, so we know how much pizza to buy.

If you would like to purchase a yearbook for this year they are $20 until December 15th - after Winter Break the price will increase. Please see the office or Ms. Pearson for a preorder form.

Winter Athletes who plan to play basketball or participate in cheer you need to be signed up on FamilyID and have a current sports physical on file with the office before the first date of practice. Pay to play fee is due before the first competition.

Washed Ashore partnered with Bandon High School and spent a day cleaning up our local beaches!

If you ordered school photos for your student(s), they were sent home with them this past week. If you missed the option to order prints, you can order them online from the Bandon School District Gallery in the link below. Picture retake day is scheduled for 11/16.

Everybody Brush Dental will be providing dental services on November 6th. If you are interested in receiving services, please turn in the consent form which came home this week. If you do not wish your child to receive services, just don't return the consent form.

Our Lost and Found is full. We will be donating all items in the lost and found after 11/9. Please have your students check the lost and found, or feel free to drop by and have a look yourself.

If you are an 8th grade parent who is interested in helping to plan 8th grade recognition events like their end of year promotion party, please let the office know so that we can get you in touch with the parents who are charging it up this year. There is a local chess tournament this Saturday, 11/4, at the Bandon Public Library. All ages and skill levels welcome. Play starts at 10, please arrive by 9:40. Pre registration is encouraged. Please email drnancykeller@yahoo.com to pre register and to ask any questions you may have.

All of our students should have signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

Ocean Crest Fall Parent Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, November 8th (5:00-8:00pm) and Thursday, November 9th (8:00 am -12:00 noon).

Conferences can be in-person, a Zoom video conference, or a phone call.

The students ran a great Jog a Thon this year with pledges totaling $16,265.70!!! 1,558 laps were ran in total. Great work!!

Jog a Thon money needs to be turned in by November 13th.

Valley Flora wanted to alert you to a few new programs that we - and other NW farms - are spearheading in in order to make fresh, local produce more accessible to low income families in our community. We’re trying to get the word out as widely as possible. If you have a spot to hang a poster (attached below), or room for a mention in your next newsletter, that would be wonderful! • Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB): a program that helps low-income Oregonians purchase more fruits and vegetables while supporting local, family farms. Folks with SNAP benefits can purchase one of our farm’s community supported agriculture (CSA) shares and DUFB will provide 1:1 matching funds (they pay half the cost of the CSA with SNAP and DUFB covers the other half).
