Maire newsletter: December 4th Edition
Dear Maire Families,
It is human nature to want connection. 2020 is a year that has challenged every person to their core on how to make those connections during Covid. Here at Maire, our staff has valued the time we had in-person with students, but we will continue to value the time we have on zooms as well during this stint of Virtual teaching.
We continue to seek that connection, and our staff, along with our PTO, are committed to finding creative ways to make and strengthen our connections. We have a Hybrid Book Fair this month, where books are here at Maire and our chairperson, Wendy Zelond, is helping parents and kids shop for books with a safe pickup here at Maire. The PTO organized a Virtual Craft Fair, including a socially distanced 4th grade Reindeer craft, to celebrate the holidays. We’ve done one Spirit Wear order and are offering a small one again. Mrs. Kramer will be rolling out an optional Friday Maire Makerspace Class with design challenges via zoom. In January we will do another One Book, One School event to have a shared reading experience. Curbside library checkout has provided families a weekly opportunity to get their hands on books. We have a Gleaners Canned Food Drive event where on December 15th grade levels will try to fill a parking spot and give back to our community.
These are just a few of the ways we are continuing to try and build connections and community during this challenging year. We miss the full school experience, but we hope these events have helped bring our Maire Bears together. We will continue to plan more ideas for the future to keep our connections strong. We miss you. We love you all. Thanks for your support this year!

GPPSS meal distribution every Wednesday
Free meals distributed Wednesdays 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
From 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. every Wednesday, families can pick up a week’s worth of meals for students under age 18 or those receiving special education services under age 26. Simply drive through North High School, 707 Vernier, in Grosse Pointe Woods. In order to keep this as safe as possible for everyone, these meals will be served as “grab and goes” to be taken home for consumption. Free lunch will be served at all schools for students who order when attending in person. Free breakfast will be served at Defer, Mason, Monteith, Parcells, Pierce, North and South when students attend school in person. This is made possible through an extension of the USDA grant.
Free and Reduced Meal Applications: https://gpschools.formstack.com/forms/freeorreduced
Important: Please complete an application each school year if you think you might be eligible as this greatly impacts the district’s ability to access state and federal funding sources. This information is confidential.
