School Security and Procedure Adjustments
Following the recent tragedy in Connecticut, educators and the community are more focused on school safety and security procedures than ever before. Student safety is our first priority, and while we routinely assess and adjust our security practices and conduct emergency drills, the events at Sandy Hook Elementary have made us look even more closely at what we do to keep children safe.
Please know that one change that will be happening soon is a "buzzer" system for entry to the building. During the school day all doors into the building will be locked, including the door that leads into the office. In order to gain entry into the school, you will need to be "buzzed" into the school. More information about the entry system will be forthcoming. It will be very helpful to us if your visits to the building are scheduled through your child's teacher or through the office prior to your visit. It will also be important for you to bring ID with you when you come to the school.
After school hours, doors will be locked, so you will not be able to enter the building unless you are expected. The Community School Aftercare Program and outside organizations who use the building after hours will not be able to allow you into the school unless you are expected.
We realize that some of these changes may be inconvenient, but they are being made to increase building security. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
