2017 National Blue Ribbon School
Shine Today, Shine Tomorrow, & Shine Always!
Thank you!
As many of you may know, I will be leaving CES as the principal. The change will be effective July 1, 2019. I have been given a great opportunity to be the planning principal of the new Urbana Elementary School that opens in August 2020. The new staff and I will move into the new elementary school in August 2020. While the school is being built I will be housed at Central Office working on projects and planning for the new school. I am excited but it is all bittersweet. I want to say thank you for six great years at CES. I could not have asked to lead a better school than CES. CES is a school where our stars excel, staff provides the best instructional program and we have the support of our community.
Six years have flown by and we have achieved so many things in six years. I will never forget the day I received the call to be informed that we were named a 2016 Maryland Blue Ribbon School. Just when I thought what a great accomplishment for our school, we were then notified that we were named a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School. This was due to the excellent staff, scholars and community at CES. As I thought my cup was overflowing , Mrs Kelli Smith was named a runner-up to the 2016-2017 FCPS Teacher of the Year and in 2017 Mrs. Karima Sharper was named the 2017- 2018 FCPS Teacher of the Year. Wow! The excellence is contagious here at CES. Most recently we were named a 2018 Green School by the State of Maryland.
In March 2018, I was very humbled to be named a National Distinguished Principal of the Year awarded by the Maryland and National Association of Elementary School Principals. This was a great experience for me and I bragged about Centerville at every function I attended.
Our stars and staff made me so proud during my six year tenure at CES. Our stars and star staff have conducted drives to support our community members in need. We held drives to help others outside of our community. The scholars raised funds to support the American Heart Association. You, the community supported fundraisers held by the PTA and school clubs to support our instructional goals.
I will miss everyone but I know that you are left in good hands as Mrs. Hopson is ready to be a shining star.
I will end with, Shine Today, Shine Tomorrow, and Shine Always Stars!
Best,
Tracy D. Hilliard
Centerville's New Principal beginning July 1, 2019
