Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
It is the last “student” Friday of the year! As I walked through the hallways this morning, I had to pause for a moment at the idyllic scene that was painted when looking into our Publick Room from the hallway…beautiful, huge snowflakes, magnificent wood paneling, and scholars, young and old, studying and collaborating together. We just need a cup of hot cocoa and a fireplace—oh wait, we had those things, too, today! It is great to be a Scout!
A hearty thank you to our APT–we DONUT what we would do without you? Why a DONUT? Because of the yummy donut and coffee truck they had for our staff on Thursday morning–it was a wonderful treat in the middle of a busy time.
This was a week full of music. From the annual Holiday Concert and Spaghetti Dinner to the Board meeting on Tuesday to our Holiday celebration as a staff to Hot Cocoa Fridays–our students make beautiful music together. Just this morning, I found our Bel Cantos at the Senior Star–their voices were almost otherworldly. I recorded a small bit of their enormous talent–you can hear it below.
Speaking of the Board meeting, Dr. Wahlert and I presented information on our Report Card and our Assessment Data for last year. Here is a recording of the Board meeting for those interested in learning more. Namely, I spoke about our plans to further support college readiness among our students, and particularly, how we prepare students for the skills on the SAT. As we begin to implement and refine our courses and the additional resources, enrichment, and intervention we offer our students to help support and expand on these skills, our students will be hearing more and more from me about college and career readiness–but as I have written before, it does take a village. The College Board has the following Parents Guide to SATs that you may consider reviewing as well.
Wishing you a joyous weekend,
Erin

SCOUTS NEED TO KNOW
Final Exam Schedule
First Semester Exams
Final exams will be administered in person. Since no students will have more than two course exams on a given day, there is no need for requests for altered times. Students are expected to engage in person during the time outlined in the schedule. If there is any extenuating circumstance that prohibits a student from participating in exams as scheduled, please contact the Assistant Principal, Dr. Alan Wahlert (awahlert@lfschools.net) or the Associate Principal of Educational Services, Dr. Patrick Sassen (psassen@lfschools.net). Additionally, make-up exams will be held in person.
Transportation
AM Bus routes will run on the Blue/Gold day schedule. The PM bus route will leave after 1:10 . If you have any questions about transportation, please email Ms. Walsh (mwalsh@lfschools.net).
Extended Time Accommodations
If a student has extended time accommodations and needs additional time following the exam period, the teacher will notify the Special Education Department or 504 Coordinator to determine a follow-up time for the student to complete the exam. This should take place during the following time frame:
Monday - Wednesday: IEP/504 only time slots
All other make-up assessment times on Thursday
When possible, teachers also have the option to monitor extended time with students. As we near the end of the first semester, students are encouraged to take advantage of the various supports offered at LFHS.
Expectations for Winter Break
We expect our staff and school community to truly utilize Winter Break for the purpose of relaxation, rejuvenation, and time with family and friends. To support this, work is not expected to be assigned to students during this time. Additionally, PowerSchool will be inaccessible for updated grades. Teachers will also be on a break, and may choose to respond to communications upon return in January.
Students on Quarantine/Ill
Students who are unable to take their final(s) during the scheduled time due to illness or quarantine should contact their teacher and the Instructional Director of the department to establish an agreed upon timeline for completing the exams(s).
Testing Center
LFHS Students: do you still have a test or quiz to make up from your classes? If so, the Testing Center (housed in the library) will be open til 4:30pm Monday-Thursday of Finals week.

All State Theatre Production
Huge congrats to senior Ciara Carroll who auditioned along with students statewide and was chosen to perform in the Illinois All State Theatre Production two years in a row. Last year she was on stage as the drummer in the Kit Cat Club in Cabaret, and this January she will play drums in the pit orchestra for the All State production of Shrek. Rehearsals are well underway and the show will be performed at the Illinois State Theatre Festival at University of Illinois, Champagn IL.
In addition to this great honor, Ciara continues her study of voice, guitar, drums & bass, tap and Irish dance and participates at LFHS in band( Band President) Orchestra, Foresters( Honors Choir) Madrigals, and occasionally assists in Jazz band. You can also catch her on stage in the LFHS winter play Wild Dust or performing with School of Rock.
