MONDAY, JANUARY 21 - MLK DAY OF SERVICE HOLIDAY: SCHOOLS CLOSED: OFFICES OPEN
For the 13th year in a row, Council Rock School District will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday with an expansive CR CARES initiative. This year's MLK Day celebration will begin at 9 AM in the Council Rock High School South Auditorium, where select students will be recognized as winners of the district’s MLK essay contest that asked them to discuss the meaning of “A Day On.”
In another part of the school, preparations will be underway for a well-coordinated service project. From 9:30 –10:30 AM nearly 300 student volunteers will work collectively to assemble CR CARES packages, sort food, and make friendship cards and blankets for local and international distribution for the following groups and organizations: Wrightstown Food Cupboard, Bucks County Emergency Shelter, Pendell Food Cupboard, Delaware Valley Veterans Home, and Deployed Military at Camp Manio, Iraq.

DISTRICT RECEIVES 35,000 STEM GRANT
As part of the state’s work to invest in workforce development—particularly in the fast-growing fields of STEM and Computer Science—Pennsylvania invited districts to apply for competitive grants focused on Computer Science and STEM education. We are pleased to report that CR has been awarded a targeted grant for $35,000 to focus on Computer Science. The district will use this grant for professional development on the Pennsylvania Computer Science standards and the implementation of those standards in classrooms at the elementary, middle and high school levels. This will include sending a team to state level training. More details on this funding opportunity to come.
