Mission Elementary
Riding the Wave of Excellence!
October 9, 2022
This week, as I visited classrooms, students in Kindergarten students were practicing important skills like writing and understanding numbers. First grade students learned important reading and writing skills through songs, games, and independent activities. Second grade students continued strengthening their knowledge of place value using skills like counting by 10s and understanding how communities work using our newly adopted curriculum, TCI. TK and preschool students work continuously on their social skills and their play-based learning emphasizes being able to play and work with one another. How can you help your student at home? Ask how their day went and spend time reading with them or ask them questions about what they are reading. Students benefit from reading, but their comprehension and love of reading increase when they have conversations and explain their thinking or questions they may have about their reading selections.
If you have not yet scheduled your appointment time for your parent-and-teacher conference, it is very important that you contact your scholar's teacher. Conferences will take place from October 17 to October 24 and all these days will be minimum days for students.
Scholastic Bookfair
You may also order online starting October 14 using this LINK and creating an eWallet account. Buying books during our bookfair will also raise funds for Mission's library!

Uniforms are not required
A recent review of board policy noted that enforcing and/or encouraging the wearing of school uniforms is not permitted in our district. Any change or exception to the policy requires prior board approval. I have decided we will not be moving forward with bringing this to our Board.
Please know that our parent handbook was revised to reflect this information. Although uniforms are not required, we will continue to follow our current dress code. Here is our revised Mission's student and parent handbook.
