Mrs. Miller's Counseling News
Twin Oaks Elementary - UPDATED 5/2/2022
Why had I never noticed it before?
Twin Oaks Families:
On a very recent trip to New York City, while walking along the High Line with my daughter, husband and grandson, I snapped this photo of a flowering cherry tree. It struck me that in a city like New York, with hundreds of towering buildings and concrete for miles, breath-taking beauty still exists around almost every corner. Of course, you have to constantly be on the lookout. If I was only focused on the path ahead, and my impatience to reach the end, I never would've seen it. One glance in the other direction, and I'd have missed this beautiful tree completely.
In the hustle and bustle of life, I often feel like a hamster on one of those wheels - spinning, spinning, spinning ... heading nowhere...never getting off to rest. We've all heard the phrase "It's not about the destination, it's about the journey," but most of the time, we are so narrowly focused on our goals, we are oblivious to the happy surprises that lie just beyond our peripheral view.
Taking a break and deviating from our normal path - whether it's a fabulous vacation, or simply a short respite from our everyday routines - can also bring clarity of purpose and a new found focus when we return to the familiar. For example, as I drove to school this morning, the evergreens appeared more vividly green than I remember, the grass was a vibrant hue, and the stormy gray sky enveloped my car like a giant, silvery, cellophane blanket. Why had I never noticed it before?
What's happening in School this week: Counseling lessons this week in K-3 classrooms will engage students in conversations about our May PBIS theme of Responsibility. Grades 4-5 will continue to focus on career exploration.
We have our last Conscious Discipline Parenting Series PARENT NIGHT planned for the month of May. If you are still interested in joining, it's not too late. Simply mark your calendar for May19th, and come to the Zoom session. Also, email me, so I can get the FREE PARENTING BOOK to you ASAP. Please see the information and Zoom link below.
COUNSELING ROOM MASK POLICY: My room has two excellent air purifiers, and I try to keep the area very safe for all who enter. For students who wear masks, I will continue to wear a mask when meeting individually with them in the Counseling Office.
