Principal's Report
Hello Lewis and Clark Families,
As we turn the calendar to March, a sense of renewal begins. Spring should be showing up soon...let's be honest...it will show up sometime between now and July 4th! We look ahead and see that we've got a lot to do. From engaging lessons to spring events, we've got a lot of great things planned for our cubs. Looking ahead to March, we've got a month filled with conferences, spring break, and PTO events.
We look forward to the conversations at the conferences this week and next. It's a great way to connect, talk about growth, and build stronger home and school connections. We hope you enjoy the spring break with your family and are able to get outside to enjoy our "springish" weather.

Spring Into Wellness
Grand Forks Public Health and Spectra Health are inviting you to Spring Into Wellness this March 13-17, 2023! It's important for children to catch up on checkups and recommended vaccines to help protect their health now and in the future. You will also be able to grab a child-wellness packet, snacks, and FUN!
Appointments will be available for vaccinations and/or well-child visits with pediatrician, Dr. Eric Lunn, at Spectra Health, 212 S 4th St, Suite 3, Grand Forks. Call Spectra Health to make an appointment: (701) 757-2100.
Take the Childhood Vaccine Quiz to see the recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents/index.html or call GFPH to have you or your child's immunize record reviewed.
Well-Child checkups and vaccinations are essential! During these visits, you can:
Track your child's growth and development
Ask about your child's health
Receive the recommended vaccinations to help prevent 14 diseases
Among children 1991-2018, vaccinations will prevent an estimated 936,000 early deaths, 8 million hospitalizations, and 419 million illnesses. You have the power to keep your child healthy and safe. Routine childhood vaccinations are important to ensure that your child and community remain healthy and protected against serious diseases, like measles and whooping cough.

Tips for Being a Good Listener
As a parent/guardian, sometimes you may feel as though your child does not listen to you. It is important that you communicate your needs and feelings to your child in an effective way. A simple suggestion to improve communication between you and your child is to use “I” messages rather than “You” messages (which often create an oppositional situation). For example, instead of saying, “You always leave your dirty dishes on the table. Can’t you pick up after yourself?” say, “When you leave your dishes on the table, I get frustrated because it makes extra work for me when I get home and I’m trying to make dinner.” Visit www.parentslead.org for more information.
