Food Service Assistance
What if...
- community churches and organizations contact schools to either get information on families in need, ask for use of a school site to distribute school, or ask for school staff to pick up and deliver food?
- families express that they would like someone to deliver food, as transportation is difficult?
Please inform your building administrator when requests like this come in, just for information purposes. Administrators inform and get support from their associate superintendents before arranging for school sites to be used for any purposes, and for school staff to be involved in any in-person contacts with the community.
If organizations would like to organize food distribution, they will need to arrange for their own sites.
If an organization would like to provide additional food, or has the capability to deliver and has contacted you, you can get the organization's contact information and provide it to the parent. We cannot be a part of sharing parent information with outside organizations, so this would be the best way to go. Let the parent contact the organization directly.
Please collaborate with members of the school-based mental health team and support staff on this one. Together, you can brainstorm with families about possibilities like the following:
- asking a neighbor or family friend to pick up the food at a school site
- providing contact information for organizations like ACTS or NVFS/SERVE that may be able to assist
Please click here to see a comprehensive list of area food pantry resources that may come in handy for you and your school-based mental health team.
PWCS has a system in place, and it may not work for everyone, but we will do our best!
