End Of Year 2016-2017 * Fin de Año 2016-2017
A Note From: Aurora Central Administrative Team
Dear Trojan Families,
During the week of April 10th-14th, we completed the required state testing. We are happy to have finished this task and are eagerly awaiting our student’s results. Additionally, we presented, to the state board, our Innovation Plan as our Turnaround Strategy and we are happy to report that the state unanimously approved our plan. Thank you to all of the folks that have had a part in creating and implementing the plan. It has been a team effort! Our students may be talking about news clips they may have seen and/ or social media posts indicating our school will be shut down. Please reassure our students that Central will not be shut down. We have no doubt that we will be the best success story in APS!
On another note, the end of the year is quickly approaching. While your students may want to relax, we are not to the finish line yet. Please make sure that they come to school each day and attend every class. This will support them in earning the credits needed to graduate and having good grades. If you need support with attendance, please contact a Dean via email, phone or by coming in.
The future of ACHS is very bright and by working together, we will be able to achieve our shared vision: graduating leaders who are self- aware, locally active and globally engaged.
Sincerely,
The ACHS Administrative Team

Notes from the Office
10th and 11th grade SAT & PSAT Results
Parents,
The 11th graders’ SAT results are starting to become available to students on-line. More are becoming available every day. To view them, students have to create a College Board account. They were given directions on how to create an account during Advisory classes. They can also stop into the library and ask Mr. Sipes for help creating an account.
10th Graders are supposed to be getting PSAT scores beginning on June 9. Again, they have to create a College Board account to get those scores.
Schools will not be getting the results until later in the summer.
Scores considered to be “on-track” to be college ready by graduation are:
Sophomores
430 Reading/Writing
480 Math
Juniors
460 Reading/Writing
510 Math
Seniors
480 Reading/Writing
530 Math
So, ask your sons and daughters if they have created an account and log on with them to see how they did.
Also, if students want to re-take the SAT, they can link their scores to the Khan Academy. It’s a FREE on-line study tool that can help kids prepare. It has everything that those expensive books have and much, much more. It will individualize the study practice based on performance on this test. It is HUGE! This is one of the main reasons that Colorado changed from ACT to SAT. And again…IT’S ALL FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They performed their music from their Multicultural Choir Concert, and from the CHSAA music festival. I attached a couple pictures from their performance, for those who are interested. Interact Club's MANDALA ART PROJECT
Created by students from Crawford Elementary School's refugee tutoring program and Aurora Central High School Interact Club members (sponsor Lindsay Unks, counselor) Aurora, Colorado
Sponsored by Lutheran Family Services of Colorado Art Facilitator: Susan Ernst Corser
The Mandala Art Project is the result of a cooperative art activity undertaken by students from Aurora Central High's Interact Club and Crawford Elementary students, many of whom are refugees representing countries throughout the world. The students worked together as part of the Global Interact Club’s mentoring program, through which high school students mentor elementary students from their same home country. This pairing provides the younger students a chance to connect with older students in an environment that supports healthy relationship-building and dialogue as a way to encourage integration into a new culture and success in school. Global Interact Mentoring is part of the youth programming of the Lutheran Family Services’ Refugee and Asylee programs, which provide refugee and resettlement services and resources to Colorado’s refugee community.
