International Festival + December Community Gathering (December 18)

We had a WONDERFUL time at our first annual International Festival! We had great food from around the world, cute performances from our littles, and a book fair to top everything off! If you missed the festival, don't worry...we will have another community dinner in January (more information to come)!

Shout out to Ms. Williams for her vision and execution! And thanks to every family who cooked/served a dish! We appreciate you!

This month, we will have a more simple gathering. On Wednesday, December 18, from 5:30-7 pm, we will come together to have hot chocolate and cookies, and make gingerbread houses in teams! You don't want to miss this one!

Community Committee Meeting: December

Big picture

At the last Community Committee meeting, we spent time brainstorming on different ways to increase Parent/Family involvement. Thanks so much for all who were able to attend!

Join us on Tuesday, December 10 from 5:30-6:30 pm for the next Community Committee meeting! Looking forward to seeing you there!

Report Cards

Big picture
Trimester 2 officially begins on December 2! With that in mind, report cards for Trimester 1 were mailed home before Thanksgiving Break. If you did not receive a report card in the mail, please reach out; we are happy to print an additional copy. If, after seeing your child's report card, you'd like a conference (assuming you weren't able to meet in November), please reach out to your child's teacher directly!

Building Update

It's been a long journey towards getting into our facility! But, you'll be happy to know that the contractors have been working day and night, to ensure we are in the building as soon as possible.

As part of their Trimester 1 projects, during Intercession, a few of the grade levels were able to go in and tour their classrooms. Much progress has been made, and we are so close to being in the facility. We have a meeting in the coming week with the contractor to discuss a date for entry, and we will share that with you as soon as possible. But, they are beginning the process of adding the finishes in the building (paint, carpet, tile, etc)! Soon, so soon!

Stay tuned! We will continue to share more information with you, as we receive it! We can't wait to get into our building; it will make such a difference for all of us!

Looking for an easy way to donate to the school? Any time you shop on Amazon, ACS can get a portion of the funds, which allows us to make purchases that will support students even more!

Go to https://smile.amazon.com/, login as you normally would, and type in our school name (Aurora Community School); we will show up as a Charter School in Denver Metro, CO.

Pajama Day: December 19

Big picture
On our last day before break (Thursday, December 19), we will have a school wide pajama day! This will be a GREAT way to end our first semester together!

Guidelines:

  • Whatever pajamas you choose should follow the normal dress code (outlined in the Family Handbook).
  • Students can wear slippers BUT they should bring those with them in their backpack and change at school, if they so desire.
  • Students CAN bring a stuffed animal with them to school, but they are responsible for it all day!
  • Please, no blankets! This will still be a day of learning, and blankets can just make you want to sleep all day :)
  • Dress for the weather!

Bus Rider Update

Big picture
Beginning tomorrow, December 2, students will get picked up in a small, white APS bus! We are excited to move to a more traditional bus!

One small change: on Wednesdays, BEGINNING DECEMBER 4, bus riders will go home at 2 pm.

Please reach out to Ashley if you have any questions or concerns about this change!

Tardy or Absent?

We know that things come up...and your student will eventually be tardy or even absent! It's important that you notify the school, as soon as possible, so we can update our attendance system.

In case of a tardy, please TEXT 720-621-4514 with the student's name, grade level, and the reason for the tardy. No one will respond to this message, but please know it was received.

In case of an absence, please EMAIL info@auroracommunityk8.org; please share the student's name, grade level, date of the absence, and reason for the absence.
