Edgewood's Tiger Talk
June 8, 2018
Notes from the Principal
This summer, I hope you enjoy some time outside, discover some good books, and I encourage kids to find a way to give back to their community.
We're switching things up a bit for our "back to school" schedule. Here are some "Save the Dates":
Mid-August--A "Welcome Packet" will be mailed home. It will have important forms and fees, including the picture order form.
Monday, August 20th: Forms, Fees, and Pictures, 2:30-6:30 pm (4K-5th Grade)
- Pay school fees
- Make sure there's lunch money on your child's account
- Take your child's school pictures
- Turn in forms so they don't get "lost" in your child's backpack
- Learn about the Parent-Teacher Organization (EHSA), Before and After Care, and various activities
Thursday, August 23rd: Welcome Walks, 5-8 pm (5K-5th Grade)
In lieu of the traditional "meet the teacher", we'll be having Welcome Walks this year. In this time period, your child's teacher will visit you. Teachers will stop by and have a door/porch visit (they won't have time to come inside). The aim is to help each child feel special and connected to start the year, and to also make sure that each parent has face time with the teacher before the school year starts so that you can ask questions. You can expect door/porch visits will be 5 minutes or less. More information and reminders will be shared over the summer.
Wednesday, August 29th: 5K Open House and Ice Cream Social
- 5K students visit their classrooms
- Drop off supplies
- Learn about arrival/dismissal procedures from Mrs. Boyd
Thursday, August 30th: 1st-5th Grade Supply Drop Off/Classroom Visit, 8:30-9:30 am
Curious about what your classroom looks like, and where you might sit on the first day? Come this morning to drop off your supplies and get a lay of the land.
*If you cannot come this morning, and would like to drop off your supplies before school starts, you can drop off supplies during Forms/Fees/Pictures on 8/20 or on between 8 and 4 on Monday, 8/27 (Teachers will not be in the building during those times, though).
Incoming 4K Students will have individual family conferences/get to know you meetings scheduled between 8/20 and 8/31. Stay tuned!

EHSA Update
Now is a great time to get involved! Our June meeting will be very important. For the events we run (dances, field trip sponsoring, event sponsoring, breakfasts, etc.), we need parent volunteers. Many of our parents currently involved have 4th and 5th graders. You may be able to be an officer, you may be able to run/chair/assist with one event--come to the June meeting to see how you might be able to support the work.
Looking ahead:
June 12th 6:30 PM EHSA Meeting: EHSA Board Elections and planning beginning of the year events
