February /March 2021
Hope everyone had a Happy LOVE Month !
WOW ! What a month February has been ... ! If we hadn't figured out the amount of resilience that we all have had leading up until this month, then throw a couple of ice storms and power outages into the mix to really challenge our strength and true potential! We hope that our families have come out of this safely on the other side and hope that that was the last of the severe weather we will be seeing this season. We have lots of things in the works right now for the coming months and are looking forward to sunnier weather and happy dance days with the kids! This newsletter will touch on many things and a follow up email will be coming out next week with more in depth information on our plans (at this point) for a Spring Performance under the state of Virginia's current guidelines and restrictions & much more.
Shining Stars 6 weeks Program extended through the end of April !
"Shining Stars" is a fun, high energy, 45 minute class for children ages 5 and under teaching basic balance and tumbling skills along with creative movement and pre-ballet.
January 2021 Students of the Month !
We're super excited to announce our January 2021 Students of the Month! Our teachers and staff put their heads together and came up with an amazing group of kids who have shown great work ethic, great attendance and always on time and prepared, kindness to their peers, and who were polite and respectful to their teachers. A few may have stepped out of their box or did an act of kindness when no one was watching (but they were caught!)..... We are so proud of them and hope that, in this crazy time, your kindness, love and positivity will spread like your favorite purple Glitter !!
** Stop by the office sometime this week to grab a little something special from us and look out for our special recognitions on our FB and IG !

Spring Performance Tidbits
Costumes:
Spring Performance costumes have started coming in and will be handed out over the next couple of weeks. Please make sure that accounts are up to date as costumes cannot be taken home until so. You can check your family account portal to make payments or you can do so with Mrs Haley in the front office.
Side Note * We are very lucky that our costumes have been made and shipped timely as many costume companies all over the country are facing hard times with manufacturers and suppliers not coming through with material and products and many are facing financial hardships and closures due to Covid.
Please also remember that costumes were based on a ranged size chart and were not made specifically to the measurements of the child. Growth was allowed into the measurements for the order, but please realize that some costumes may need slight alterations. If your child has had a large growth spurt, let us know and we can help fix the issue and recommend places/people if you need help in that field. Some straps may need to be tightened or a quick stitch for tutus or jackets to be held in place, etc. All easy to do and we can help with any questions. Under normal circumstances, we have all the classes try on the costumes in their classes, before they leave with them, so we can see how they fit, what needs to be sewn, etc. Now, with capacity limitations, we can't have parents enter the building. So, if there is enough staff available, we are having them try on over their leotards, but in some cases/classes, they will need to be tried on at home and then put in a safe place.
*All costumes with tutus or tulle skirts should be hung upside down on a hanger by the crotch so that the tutus can unwrinkled and relax.
*All bags were checked for pieces, including gloves/mits, ties and hair pieces. PLEASE keep in a safe spot so that your child will have all the pieces of their costumes for pictures and the show. Since costumes were not made in house and most were an 8-12 week turnaround, we won't have the ability to order extra pieces if a piece is missing.
Picture Week:
Individual picture week is still planned for April. Students will have the OPTION to take individual pictures in their costumes with our photographer during this time. Direct Exposure photography will offer digital package options and online order forms and schedules will be available in our detailed email. Group photos, at this time, are still up in the air due to social distancing and mask guidelines.
Date & Venue:
GJDC is currently in the process of trying to finalize plans for our Spring Performance 2021. As Im sure you are all aware, during these times of Covid, we will not be able to have something like we have all been used to in the past years. Right now, this just isn't possible with all the guidelines that are in place. Guidelines and restrictions are still strictly enforced for venues and outdoor facilities and we're hoping in the coming months that these will be lifted allowing us to have more capacity, both on stage/backstage and for an audience.
Under normal circumstances, we would have our show the week leading up to and on Mother's Day weekend and a Ticket Day (always the first Saturday in April) that would essentially fund the show which entails the rental costs of the facilities, staffing and custodial/clean up, lighting and sound equipment, props, rentals/moving, etc, etc.... Up until a week or so ago, there were many facilities/venues that were not even putting holds for dates because of the constant moving of dates for weddings/events and schools being virtual/hybrid, etc. At this point, we have several holds for weekends in May and early June as possibilities but audience capacity will be a challenge. We have also looked into the possibility of an outdoor venue/show and an on site set up on studio grounds. We are working as many things out as possible, as quickly as we can and hope to finalize our plans within the next 2 weeks.
We appreciate everyone's patience and support through all of this and simply want to ensure that the kids have an amazing ending to a year that has been full of ups and downs, changes and challenges and showcase their hard work and dedication along with the kindness, courage and resilience they have shown since March of 2020.
