Spring Pictures at MMS
Spring pictures will be on Tuesday, April 18th. If you would like your student to have their Spring Pictures taken at MMS, please fill out this form.
This form must be filled out by the parent/guardian by Monday 4/17/23 in order for the student to have their picture taken. If you have any questions, please call the main office at 704-658-2720.
Reminder about student preparedness for class:
Feed NC change donation drive
The 8th grade Junior Excel Club is sponsoring a penny fundraiser for Feed NC. We have water jugs in the cafeteria, the front office, and the media center. If everyone can contribute a little we can help a lot of people get the food they need! This money stays local and helps the Soup Kitchen and local outreaches for those who need assistance.
Please encourage your students to clean out the family spare change stash and help others at the same time! May 12th is the final day to bring in some of that extra spare change. Thank you!
7th & 8th grade promotion ceremonies (May 2023)
Two ceremonies for each grade level will occur; start times are based on each student's first core teacher (1st period for 7th graders; 4th period for 8th graders). Here are the teams / times for each grade level:

8:00am - Team Thunder (Peterson, Kraftchick, Luffman, Pendleton, Woodring, Eyer, Plemons, Davis-Vickery)
10:00am - Team Lightning (T. Fulton, Mentzer, Wright, Orlando, Cook, Wilson, Ketchie, Groves, Hildebran)
current 7th grade -- Wednesday, May 24th)
8:00am - Team Spinners (Davis, Coker, Sos, Buchanan, Durham, Barbee, Fandrey, Hamilton, Kaiser)
10:00am - Team Copperheads (Foushee, Coffey, Thornhill, Zocchi, McAllister, M. Fulton, Alvord, Hamm, Roseman, Hildebran)
Upcoming student progress checks
The Edmentum diagnostic test which determines individual student growth in both reading & math through use of that program will be held next week on Tuesday, April 18th (reading) & Wednesday, April 19th (math). A testing schedule will be run at MMS during these two days due to the longer diagnostic benchmarks.
8th Grade End of Year Field Trip (Carowinds)
On Friday, May 19th, 8th grade students will be taking an optional trip to Carowinds for their year-end celebration. Permission slips for this trip were distributed to students in 7th period on Thursday & Friday of this past week.
Payments for this trip are $85 per student (covers charter bus + admission + lunch). Money will be collected in Ms. Mentzer's classroom (402) between 7 - 7:30am. Because no classes are on the 400 hallway until 9:00, students will need to make an E-hall pass to come see Ms. Mentzer from their 1st period. * if you'd like to pay online, use this link to do so *
The deadline to submit money for this trip is next Monday, April 17th. Students on the Loss of Privilege list for MMS on the date of the field trip will not be allowed to attend. LoP is assigned to students receiving OSS or three ISS consequences for poor behavior.
This should be a fun way for 8th graders to celebrate the end of their middle school careers. We hope your 8th grader can come too!
MMS hosts these spring sporting events next week:
Monday, April 17th -- volleyball & baseball vs. China Grove
Tuesday, April 18th -- track meet vs. North Rowan, Erwin, China Grove
Wednesday, April 19th -- boys & girls soccer vs. Knox
Notes from our PTSO:
On Monday, 4/17, and Tuesday, 4/18, the MMS PTSO will be sponsoring a Wisdom Wall. Students are encouraged to write notes of wisdom to leave behind for our rising 6th and 7th graders to read! Students can stop by to write a note after each lunch period in the 100 hallway. The wall will be up for display at our rising 6th / 7th grader night on 4/19 through the beginning of next school year.
Make plans to stop by the PTSO table at course registration night, 4/19, 6-8pm. Again, this event is for rising 6th / 7th grade parents + students. We will be selling spirit wear and items for both MMS and SBMS. Our popular MMS hoodie is back in stock so be sure to stop by and get yours.
PTSO needs your help to sponsor our April staff appreciation snack cart. If you can help provide snacks and drinks to thank our staff for everything they do, please sign up and bring your items to the front office by Thursday, April 20 (Apr Staff Appreciation Sign Up) No time to shop?...No problem! Make a monetary donation and PTSO will shop for you: Donate for staff appreciation
Save the date for the next PTSO meeting: Wednesday, April 26th from 8:30-9:30am at MMS. We will discuss upcoming events, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. We will also be voting for the 2023-2024 PTSO executive officers. We hope you can join us!
Who's ready for more donuts? MMS PTSO and Down For Doughnuts are hosting our next spirit day fundraiser! Come join us on Saturday, April 29th, from 7:30am until 12:00pm. Pre-orders will be available so you're sure to get your favorites! 10% of sales will benefit MMS PTSO!
We have MMS and Mooresville items for sale in our online square store. Items will be given to your student at school. Contact us via email redimpsptso@gmail.com to purchase with cash. Thank you for supporting and showing off your red imp spirit! PTSO store
Both MMS PTSO and the new Selma Burke MS PTSO are seeking volunteers for next school year. If you want to get involved please email us at redimpsptso@gmail.com and specify which school your student will be attending next year.
Please join our PTSO facebook group. This online community is for parents/guardians of MMS students and MMS staff. We will share information from the PTSO, MMS and MGSD. It is also a place for you to connect with other parents/guardians and the PTSO. We hope you'll join us! Follow us on Facebook! Thank you for your support! Questions for the PTSO? E-mail us at redimpsptso@gmail.com
Exact Path progress viewing
Parents and students alike can also view ongoing Exact Path progress and diagnostic reports at any time by logging in through the student account. You can view written directions for that here and a screen recording below:

Please email Ms. Anne Allen (anneallen@mgsd.k12.nc.us) or Mr. Justin Miller (justinmiller@mgsd.k12.nc.us) if you have questions about the Exact Path diagnostic.
Free Online Tutoring for Students
When they sign up, they will get an email from NCVPS with the link for their session, and a link to cancel or reschedule if needed. Please reinforce to students that they should be respectful of tutors' time and not be "no-shows" if they sign up for a time.
Students who do not have Internet access at home or need a quiet place to attend tutoring are welcome at the Selma Burke Community Center.
We hope your students will take advantage of this "EDvantage"!!
How to alert MMS of a student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is: MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us
Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. We hope this process will be easier on everyone instead of always sending a note with the student that gets lost so easily!
