Knightly Update August 6, 2023
ACP High School - Edition Vol 3 Issue 5
________________________________________
Welcome to August! Sir Thunder (pictured) and I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and found some time to relax. With our second full week of school behind us, most students appear to have settled into their daily routine. I appreciate all our teachers, staff and students have done to get the year off to a very nice start. Great job, Knights!
As the quarter continues, please remember to frequently review your child's academic progress via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Mid-quarter grades for this quarter will be posted on Friday, August 18. If you have any questions regarding your child's progress, please contact the appropriate instructor(s). Thank you for supporting your child(ren).
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we evaluated submitted schedule change requests over the start of the school year. All submitted requests have been evaluated and addressed. With this work being complete, no further requests will be accepted, and no additional schedule changes will be made. Students have until the 20th day of school (August 15th) to request a level change (pending teacher & parent approval) or withdraw from a course. Other than level changes (e.g., moving from Honors World History to on-level World History) or course withdraw, no other requests will be considered or made. Thank you.
Unfortunately, I received several complaints from our neighbors last week regarding families dropping off or picking up in residential neighborhoods surrounding our campus. It is unfortunate and frustrating to receive these types of calls and emails when processes are in place to avoid this issue. Please drop off and pick up your child using the guidelines established. With after school activities/practices starting, the pick-up process will shorten and become more efficient as many students will be staying after school to engage in various activities. Please follow established guidelines and show compassion for our neighbors as you would hope others would show to you and your neighbors. I appreciate your attention to this expectation.
I enjoyed meeting with our sophomore and junior students this week and I look forward to speaking with our seniors on Monday. General reminders about school rules and procedures are shared at these meetings, which includes a review of our school's dress code. Please remind your child to be cognizant of modesty when choosing what to wear to school. I realize current fashion trends market extremely short bottom attire, but our expectation is for students to wear attire that is appropriate for a school environment while maintaining general modesty. We always begin the year with a grace period as students are reminded of dress guidelines, and with that period behind us, students who choose to wear attire that is deemed to be inappropriate or violates general dress standards, will receive a dress code infraction and be assigned appropriate consequences. If you have any questions about attire guidelines, please review the Summer Edition of our Knightly Update or contact any member of administration.
All students who completed the requirements to check out a district laptop have received their device. If a student was absent during our distribution days or did not have an electronic user agreement signed by their assigned distribution day, they will need to report to the library to check out their machine. In the event the library is closed, scan the QR code that is included within our tech help sheet (see below) for assistance. With the distribution of devices completed, students must get in the habit of bringing their laptop to school daily, just like they would any other school supply, and ensure their computer is charged and ready to be used. We are excited to provide a 1:1 learning environment to all our students this year.
I hope you have a very nice week. Be sure to make note of our upcoming Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 17th. I look forward to seeing you in a couple weeks. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Have a great day!
Rob Bickes
Principal

Cash for Classrooms
August is Cash for Classrooms Month, and Chandler Education Foundation is focused on raising money for CUSD schools. This year, ACPHS has set aside the week of August 14th to focus on garnering donations for this amazing campaign. Please join our school community in raising funds to support the Cash for Classrooms program. Our school and students have greatly benefited from the Cash for Classrooms campaign in previous year, and your generosity directly contributed to these classroom and school-wide opportunities. Please consider making a donation on behalf of ACPHS the week of August 14th.
Funds raised support enrichment grants across the district. This year, the Foundation will continue to focus on supporting innovative learning opportunities for students, investing in school libraries, technology, and opportunities that pave the way to a student’s future. Every dollar raised makes a difference.
Information will be sent out to sites throughout the month of August. While our school is focusing its support the week of August 14th, online contributions can be made anytime at ChandlerCashForClassrooms.org. Donors who contribute $100 or more will receive a State Forty Eight shirt as a thank you for their generosity. An email for sizing will be sent out by the end of August, and shirts will be delivered to CUSD sites.
Many businesses support matches when donating to an approved 501(c)3. For more information, please contact the Foundation at ChandlerEdFoundation@cusd80.com.

All clinicians will have suicide specific treatment training that reduces thoughts of suicide within an average of 5.2 weeks.
The Hope Institute is ready to open its doors and we would like to invite you to join us for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, August 30th at 6:30 pm to officially welcome them to our community! Please RSVP here.

MEET THE TEACHER - AUGUST 17 - 6:00 PM
The purpose of the evening is for each of your child's teachers to give you a brief overview of the curriculum, review what your child will be studying, and the materials teachers and students will be using in order to achieve our academic goals.
There will not be a lot of time for individual questions, but parents or students may leave their phone numbers and email addresses, and our instructors will follow-up as appropriate. We hope to see you there!

The Prep PTO
The PREP PTO is the official parent/teacher organization of ACP High. Our role is to help support the staff, students, and faculty of ACP. School funds only go so far. We work closely with the administration to help determine the needs and then fund those needs. We support back-to-school events, teacher requests, general requests from the administration, graduation, and so much more. We support the entire school!
We do minimal fundraising throughout the year, so to assist us with our events and school support, we ask families to consider making a Booster donation.
Our suggested Booster Donation is:
$60 per student
$90 per family (2 or more students attending ACPHS)
Donations over $150 will receive an ACP Spirit T-shirt by the end of August.
Any donations to The Prep PTO are greatly appreciated but are not required.
The PrepPTO is a member of the Chandler School Boosters 501c3 non-profit organization. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please consult your tax professional for information/clarification.
Thank you for your support.

Please Make a Tax Credit Donation
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. To participate or learn more, follow the link listed below to donate online or you can complete the enclosed form and submit your contribution at your convenience.
http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
