Veterans Day Letter from Principal Nelson

Dear Diamond Path Families,

Today is Veterans Day. As I shared last year on this day, my father served in the army at the

end of World War II and during the Korean War. While he and his generation did not readily

share details of their service or about warfare, toward the end of his life I learned more and

more about how his experiences shaped his life. I am forever grateful for his sacrifices and

dedication and the lasting impact it continues to have on my life.

Our veterans feel a calling to the ideals and ideas we have as a country. They and their families share a sense of duty and hope that together their efforts will strengthen our nation, protect our citizens, and expand the personal freedoms and liberties of peoples around the planet. As a result of their service, we enjoy countless blessings and opportunities on a daily basis, for which we must be grateful. Veterans Day is a time to pause and recognize the price that has been paid by veterans on our behalf. The simple, yet profound truth, is that those who have proudly served and those who continue to proudly serve are forever changed by their selfless commitment to others. Their price is a heavy one to pay, during their years in our armed forces and well after. Often it is measured in lifetimes or even lives.

At Diamond Path, we aspire to become contributing global citizens of the world. I want to

personally thank every Diamond Path school and community member who is a veteran or who supports and loves a veteran. No matter what branch of service or role you or your loved one fulfilled in our military, we appreciate your dedication and your continued commitment to

public service in our school system. Thank you for being a positive influence in the lives of our community’s youth. Your actions provide us with a model of how to better the world around us through selfless service.

Your Principal,

Rob Nelson

Magnet Applications for School Year 2024-2025 are Now Open!

The application for entry into the magnet lottery for next school year is open online and will be available until Friday, January 5, 2024. During this time there are often questions from current families about the status of their student. Hopefully the following information will answer your questions:

  1. If you live in the Diamond Path attendance area, you do not have to complete a magnet application.
  2. If you currently have a magnet student attending Diamond Path, you do not need to complete an application again. You are a magnet school family if your child attends a magnet school by being selected through the magnet lottery.
  3. While you do not have to reapply for your current magnet student, you MUST APPLY for any siblings you would like to attend a magnet school. It is not guaranteed that the new sibling will be selected in the lottery, however, "sibling preference" is the highest priority in our lottery system.
  4. The Magnet lottery window is from Monday, October 9th through Friday, January 5, 2024. Families will be notified of placement no later than Friday, January 12, 2024.
  5. Click here for the magnet application.

Friendly Reminders and Expectations:

Attendance: If you have a sick child, are picking your student up early, or have a planned absence, please click here or email the Diamond Path Attendance email at dp.attendance@district196.org to report the absence. If your child is sick, include details of symptoms such as fever of 100.4 or greater, cough, sore throat, or COVID-19 test results. Also, to help eliminate any confusion at the end of the day, please report any transportation changes before 2:00 PM.

Transportation: We are not allowed to write bus passes for students to ride the bus home with other students, unless it's an emergency, which will then be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Lunch: Visitors are not allowed to have lunch with students this year. Thank you for your understanding!
