Calendar Change

Due to the 4 days SJE was closed during the week of January 28th, we are moving the end of the 3rd quarter from Tuesday, March 12th to Friday, March 15th. Report cards will go home the week of March 18th.

End of School Year Information

The school board has passed a motion that the last day of school will be no later than May 31, 2019.

Due to the extreme winter weather we have had this year, the school board has approved a motion to implement unplanned e-learning (no back to back days though) to be used to make up school closure days that may occur between now and May 31st.

Annual School Association Meeting Sunday Feb 24th

The annual school association meeting is coming up at the end of the month. It is scheduled for Sunday, February 24th at 2pm in the Soest FLC. You, as school parents, (whether you are a member of either congregation or not) are encouraged to attend this meeting. It is here that we talk about and celebrate school events and inform, discuss and decide things for the upcoming new school year. This is a great time for parents to come, listen and learn. We hope to see you there!

Yearbook Pictures Needed

Alisa Meyer is working on the yearbook and is looking for more pictures to fill it. If you have any pictures you can share, please email them to Alisa at

Middle School Dance March 1st

The dance will be held on Saturday, March 1 from 7-10 in the Soest Family Life Center. Cost is $5 or $3 with a canned food donation for the Monroeville Food Bank.

19-20 Re-Enrollment Coming Soon

Re-Enrollment for the 19-20 school year will begin on Monday, March 4th. Enrollment for new families will begin on March 18th.

Just as you did last year, you will go to what is now called FACTS Family page and go to enrollment/re-enrollment and re-enroll your kids that way. DO NOT fill out a new application if you are a current family with no new kids to enroll. If you have new children to enroll, those you will go through the application process. The rest of your kids will be re-enrollment only.

I am planning to send home to all families during the week of February 25th a financial worksheet that will give you an estimate of what your tuition bill could look like next year. As always, it is still an estimate until all scholarships etc have been awarded. The scholarship figures used in their now are based on what you were awarded in 18-19.

If you are planning on applying for an SGO or School Choice scholarship, please send me the first page of your 1040 sometime in March. There is a new process to apply for an SGO. For next year you will apply for an SGO online and just send me the 1040 to upload for you. The website will be available in early April. Watch for more details to come.

If you have questions about the process, please don't hesitate to ask Amy in the office or myself.

Carnival News

  • The carnival is still looking for volunteers for this spring. Whether you need volunteer hours or not, please consider signing up to help. Here is an easy link to do so:
  • All Parents: The PTL will need a carnival chairperson for the 19-20 school year. If you are interested, please talk to Stephanie Foster.
  • Room parents: Carnival baskets need to be finished the week before spring break.
  • Chicago Bears are donating an item. Watch for an announcement.
  • Need 2 big dog cages for the animal rescue game. Contact or email Stephanie Foster

SJE Kindness Week Starts Monday

This week SJE students, faculty and staff will be focusing on kindness activities and lessons. The information will come from this kindness website. Teachers have spent the last couple of weeks developing the lessons and activities for that week. The curriculum being used is secular however we are also going to intentionally weave in our faith perspective as well.

Volunteering at SJE

Please note the info in bold below and see where you might be able to help/volunteer. If you have not yet volunteered this year, please consider doing so.

**Please note that your volunteer hours this year (18-19) will reduce or eliminate up to $400 of the tuition increase/student set for the 19-20 school year.***

The Lutheran SGO for SJE

It's that time again to have a conversation about our SGO. We have many families that have filled out applications requesting funds to assist with their school tuition. This is a great way to help them. It allows the donor to donate funds to the SGO and receive a 50% Indiana state tax credit. If your donation is large enough, you can carry it over up to 8 tax years. Our need this year as of now is $19,500.00, of which we already have about $7000.00. Please consider giving. There are so many ways to do so and more are coming in early 2019. Please visit the website for more info.
