Assessments & Grades
- Teachers will review work that was assigned from September 21 through October 27 (end of the nine weeks). You will receive a list of any missing assignments that should be completed to be calculated in the first nine weeks' grades. Please let your child's teacher know if you have any questions about missing assignments.
- Our nine weeks ends on October 27. All work for PCVA students should be completed by no later Saturday, November 14, at midnight. Teachers will then finalize the grade for the first nine weeks.
- Important to consider when reviewing your child's grade: The grade is based on total points that will be accumulated throughout the full course. If a student has not completed work, the assignment is not currently graded and does not impact the grade. The grade is only impacted once an assignment has been submitted and graded. For example, if your student has completed 1 assignment out of 4 and received a grade of 90 that is the average that you will see. The student has until November 14 to submit the assignment or a grade of 50 will automatically be added.
Use for Mastery= no assignment submitted, no grade
Project= no assignment submitted, no grade
Quick Check= no assignment submitted, no grade
If these were your student's grades then you would only see the 90 average.
- To view your child's grades:
Click on "Gradebook" on the top left side of the screen.
You will see the averages for each subject.
Click "View Details" to see each assignment.
Assessment Reminder for Grade 2:
ITBS/CogAT will be administered in person to all grade 2 students. Please review information from your child's teacher on dates/times that your student should report to school to take this test.
Caring for Student Needs!
- School Counselor- Each school has a certified counselor to support your child's success through work with students on academics, social and personal relationships, and career awareness. Contact your school counselor if your child needs support in any of these areas.

Coaching or Time? Supporting Your Child as a Learning Guide
One of the frameworks we use in our classrooms involves students supporting one another when they read together. In the Daily 5, Read to Someone, is a time where a student is reading to another student and in those moments they are encouraged to give coaching or time as needed. I think the ideas that students use in these moments may be helpful to parents working with students at home. The article is linked below. I would encourage you to read about this strategy and think about how you can give your child coaching or time in various moments of work throughout the day.
