Family Dance-Alternative

Typically, October is the time we enjoy our school's Family Dance. Clever members of our Governance Council have come up with a light-hearted, social-distanced, fundraising alternative to the Family Dance. Watch for this notice in the mail. Thank you for your support.

Elementary Chill Out Space

A new Canvas course called “Elementary Chill Out Space" is being added to each student’s dashboard. The Elementary Chill Out Space has three “rooms” full of resources for students and parents/guardians to access when they need it. I highly recommend it!

The Elementary Chill Out Space includes the following:

  1. A introduction room to the resources in the Elementary Chill Out Space
  2. A library with links to various social emotional read aloud books
  3. A coping skills room with ideas and links for breathing strategies, calming games, grounding techniques, yoga videos and much more

Each student needs to “accept” the invitation to this course. If your student missed the invitation, please let us know. We can ask for the invitation to be sent again.

Digital Citizenship and iPad Use

In today's world, skills of digital citizenship are essential for adults and students. We practice these skills within our classes and teach these skills directly through out the school year. Teaching digital skills means focusing on safe access to online information, maintaining personal and social boundaries, acting responsibly online, and following routines for personal health and balance. The following link is a fantastic resource for parents to review best practices together with their children.

Please keep in mind: the District-provided iPad shared with your child is to be used only for school-based purposes. The settings and apps on the iPad are designed for this purposes. Please remind your students about this agreement. If you have any questions about your student's iPad, please contact Mrs. Stanger.

Pick-Up and Give Back

Members of our Governance Council have a special surprise up their green sleeves! This unique project starts with a little help from you. During our materials pick-up time this week, we are asking families to bring small to medium sized clippings from succulents you have at home. As you drive through, simply hand those small clippings to school staff through the car window. There is no need to pack them in any special way. We will be ready to receive them. These tiny bits will become a part of a special project, a beautiful reminder of giving, growing and community. Thank you for joining in for this special activity and for being a part of the Sycamore community this year.
