MVMS Library Media Center
April Newsletter
Please listen up during announcements this month for exciting events and special happenings here in the library media center. There will be trivia every Monday in April as well as special activities throughout the month. Please encourage your students to take part!
Upcoming Dates
Thursday, April 12th: National Drop Everything and Read Day! If you would like to sign up to bring your students down to the library media center on this day, please let me know. Though I can only host five groups (it is a predicted day 3), I encourage EVERYONE to consider participating.
Thursday, April 19th: The Reading Marathon will come to an end. All COMPLETED contracts are due to the library at this time.
Celebration invitations will be distributed after vacation and the party is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, May 10th. If you are struggling to meet your book goal, we have lots of wonderful graphic novels, picture books, and easy reads that could help!
Friday, April 20th: The LMC will be closed in the morning to accommodate the Career Day speakers.
May 21-25th: The annual Buy One, Get One Free book fair- Who doesn't love a BOGO sale? Mark your calendars and save your pennies. Speaking of pennies, all late fines paid between now and May 21st will go towards purchasing books for teacher classroom libraries and students in need.
The fair will be open late on Tuesday, May 22nd (Move-Up Night).

Come on...Join the Cult of Pedagogy!
"Cult of Pedagogy is run by a team of people committed to making you more awesome in the classroom." I am currently obsessed with this particular website and think that Jennifer Gonzalez, the editor, has done a great job curating information that is useful to educators and presenting it all in an engaging way. The blog, as well as the podcast, addresses various issues relevant to teachers teaching in 2018.
The Blog consists of a variety of posts. "Each one falls into one of these three categories: The Craft, where we fine-tune the art of teaching, Go Deep, where we dig into the theory and thinking behind our practice, and Teacher Soul. This last category is my favorite, because it's where we get into the guts, the raw emotion of teaching."
I am not going to pretend I know what each of you needs to in terms of topics and content, but I will tell you- this is a great site to check out. One that helped me was the podcast, "Are you a curator or a dumper?"; "Frickin' Packets" also resonated.
The blog post "6 Ed. Tech Tools to try in 2018" introduced me to InsertLearning which allows you to create a lesson out of any website in just a few easy steps and is also Google Classroom compatible.
