Notes from East Hill Elementary
January 13, 2023
Message from East Hill Principal
Dear East Hill Families,
Another great week at East Hill! We were busy with our winter universal screening for all K-4 students. Our teacher teams will meet with our district coaches next week to review data, plan instruction, and celebrate learning!
Our students and staff did a wonderful job practicing our emergency lockdown drill on Wednesday afternoon. We practice these drills throughout the school year.
Our own grade 8 CMS Band and WGHS Wind Ensemble visited East Hill this morning to perform for our Wildcats at our Positivity Project assembly. They were amazing and a great way to kick off our Friday!
Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday, January 16 as we observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Have an enjoyable long weekend!
Sincerely,
Susan Meskos

Next week's Positivity Project character trait focus is PERSEVERANCE. Click here to preview what the students will be learning about.

East Hill Little Free Library
The East Hill library has begun a Little Free Library where students are free to borrow books that have been donated! Students are invited to borrow from the shelves and are welcome to keep the books they choose or return the books when they are finished. Students are also encouraged to bring in gently used donations from home with the permission of their families!

Kindergarten Registration NOW OPEN!
Kindergarten Registration for the 2023-2024 school year opened virtually on December 14, 2022 and will go until March 31, 2023. This will allow our families to register their children from the comfort of their homes or office. Please click here to start the Virtual Registration process. This will schedule a telemeeting with you.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of immunizations
- proof of age
A physical examination is also required and a dental certificate is requested for entry into kindergarten. These examinations should be done up to one year prior to the first day of school. Children who enter kindergarten this fall must be five years of age on or before December 1, 2023.

UPK Registration is NOW OPEN
West Genesee partners with local Community-Based Organizations (CBO) for its Pre-K program. Currently, there is one classroom at Split Rock Elementary and 5 classrooms with our CBOs. The number of available seats is dependent on the UPK allocation the District receives from NYS. The State Budget is adopted on or near April 1.
To be eligible for UPK during the 2023-2024 school year, a child must:
- Have a birthdate between December 2, 2018 and December 1, 2019
- Reside in the West Genesee Central School District
In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the district will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random.
Those children who have completed the registration process by March 17 will be part of the initial selection process.
Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed:
- whether their child has been accepted to the program, and
- which site (including hours of the program) is available for their child;
OR
- where their child is on the waiting list.
Families will be contacted by April 14, 2023.
If at any point after the initial selection process there are more students registered than seats available, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order that their registration was completed.
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of parents/guardians, and students must attend the program five days a week to maintain their seat.
Look for registration information on the Central Registration webpage at: https://www.westgenesee.org/district-services/registration/. If you have any questions, email the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org, or call Central Registration at (315) 487-4683.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of immunizations
- proof of age
