A Thoughtful Classroom Update
Living and Learning in Third Grade
Nightly Homework
Just a reminder that each night students need to be making time for reading and math fact fluency! Reading can be enjoyed independently or as a partnership! Math fact fluency needs to be FAST and FURIOUS!!
Students also have log-ins for Typing Club. This can be practiced at night, as well! It is NOT a requirement, but a fun alternative to playing video games!! We do practice our typing skills 4 days a week during writer's workshop! This practice will help prepare students for the rigor of typing during the PARRC assessment that they take in the spring!
Reader's Workshop
Students enjoyed the start of our fiction unit! Our focus for two days was on Folktales! Our lesson targets this week were: learning to track cultural language to help us remember the parts of a folktale, learning to identify why a folktale has been passed down from generation to generation, learning to identify the author's message or theme, and learning to describe a character based on their problems, actions, and feelings.
Math Workshop
Learning targets this week were: learning to round to the nearest ten within a hundred, learning to recognize when I should round to the nearest 100 or nearest 10 within a hundred, and learning to estimate sums!
Writing Workshop
Students are working to grow their personal narratives. Lessons focused on: learning to bring out the internal story, learning to know when to begin a new paragraph, and learning to be my own job captain (person who continues to set new writing goals and who works to meet them)
Just some reminders...
- IXL is a great resource for practicing fluency and math skills!
- 10/21 Bus evacuation drill
- Please send in the field trip permission form and $7 ASAP, we need to let our lunch service know how many school sacked lunches are needed
