Ms. Ashmore's Class - April 2, 2021
This Week in Kindergarten...
On our world tour this week, we visited Egypt and Germany. While in Egypt, we looked at the ancient tombs and wrote our names in hieroglyphs on cartouches. During art class, we created jeweled pharaoh crowns. Next, we learned some fascinating facts about the dromedary camel and made a caravan of them. Later in the week, we visited the Bavarian countryside of Germany and learned about how they make cuckoo clocks. Our clocks could even move their hands and had a pop-out cuckoo bird. A lesson on telling time made this an exciting project. Of course, a trip to Germany would not be complete without castles! We painted some grand and colorful castles and even gave them unique German names! Finally, we rolled and baked fresh pretzels. Delicious! After Spring Break, we will travel to Russia and Japan.
Our "How-To" writing unit came to an end this week and the students shared their best work with classmates. Our next unit will cover expository writing as we learn to write animal reports. Students will be researching a chosen animal and writing about their habitats, food, babies, and more. The students have already picked their animals and are so excited to learn all about them!
There will be no homework over Spring Break but kids are always welcome to work on i-Ready lessons for extra practice. There is also an optional First in Math challenge in Friday Folders that kindergartners can complete.
