Miller Moments
September 22, 2017
Dear Miller Families,
Way to go Miller Students for meeting your character goal!
This week during Class Meeting: Safe Spot Tools
During class meetings this week we discussed the following safe tools and why they are important for us to use when we are feeling anxious, sad, angry or frustrated.
- Stuffed Animal: The site and feel of a stuffed animal puts your mind and senses at ease. Rub it gently or cuddle with it, creates a sense of peace and calm.
- Pinwheel: Giving children insight into their breathing allows them to notice it throughout the day. Having a prop like the pinwheel can allow them to stop and visualize their breathing. The next time you notice a child struggling, you might consider drawing attention to the breath. Ask curious questions: “What is your breath like now? I wonder if taking some slow, deep breaths might help you feel better?” At a moment of anxiety, the child might think, “I’m breathing crazy fast.” And now he’ll have a strategy to slow his breath down.
- Glitter Jar: When we shake it up, it becomes cloudy and hard to see through. If we take a minute to let the glitter settle, we can clear our minds and be calm and make good decisions.
- Stress Ball: The stress ball prompts you to squeeze and release, which can leave you feeling less tense that you started. The benefit of squeezing is that it releases some kind of energy and it induces you to relax.
Boosterthon! Help us raise money for a shade cover for the playground and books for our classrooms!

Miles for Miller - September 29th
Parents!
This year’s main fundraiser is the Miles for Miller! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on September 20. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on September 29. With our big goal of raising $36,000 for our shade structure and guided reading books, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.
Donations will go toward our shade structure and guided reading books, and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
