Organelles of a Cell
By Kira Taylor
Cell Membrane
- It surrounds the cell
- It checks what can come and go
- It is only found in plants
Cell Wall
- It is made up of sugars called cellouse
- It protects the cell and helps the plant grow
- It is also only found in plants
Cytoplasm
- It's fluid that fills a cell
- Cytoplasm keeps the cell cell working
- It is found in both plant and animal cells
Nucleus
- Single rounded ball surrounded by a double membrane
- Contains DNA information and controls the cell's growth and reproduction
- It is in both plant and animal cells
Nuclear Membrane
- A double layered membrane that protects the nucleus
- Seperates the nucleoplasm from the cytoplasm
- It's found in both types of cell
Nucleolus
- Another round structure located inside the nucleus
- Makes Ribosomal groups from protein and ribosomal RNA
- It overall helps make proteins
- It is found in both type of cells
Centrioles
- Group of small tubes arranged in a specific way in 9 groups
- It helps the cell when it comes to division
- It is found in both types of cell
Mitochondria
- Small bodies that float and are made of 2 membranes
- It takes nutrients breaks them down and creates enery from it earning it's name of the powerhouse of the cell
- It is in both animal and plant cells
Chloroplast
- Has 2 membranes
- It works to do the process known as photosynthesis
- It is only found in plant cells
Lysosomes
- A vescile that holds many different enzymes
- It helps digest food and helps break the cell down when it does
- It is found mostly in animal cells
Peroxisomes
- Small vesicles surrounding the cell with a 1 membrane that holds enzymes
- It does many things like absorb nutrients like fatty acids, digest alcohol and attacking complex molecules and breaking them down
- It is found in both plant and animal cells
Vacuole
- A membrane that surrounds a fluid that holds nutrients or waste
- They will be larger in plant cells because it holds the water or food
- It stores food or any nutrients for the cell
- It's in both plant and animal cells
Cytoskeleton
- It's extremely versatile because it can lengthen and shorten very quickly
- It controls the cell shape, movement in the cell and movement of the cells in the cell overall
- It's in both plant and animal cells
Chromatin
- DNA and proteins that shrink to turn to chromosomes
- Chromatin fibers become chromosomes
- It is in both types of cells
Ribosomes
- Small bodies that float in cytoplasm
- They make protein
- They are in both animal and plant cells
Golgi apparatus
- Group of membranes shaped like pancakes
- They gather simple molecules & mergers them to make them complex
- Also it's the place where the complex molecules are stored and charged
- It is in both plant and animal cells
Endoplasmic reticulum
- Tube like membranes connected to the nucleus
- It has 2 parts a rough part called the "rough ER" and a smooth part called the "smooth ER"
- It collects and builds proteins and lipids
