This Week at Academy of St Benedict

This Week at Academy of St. Benedict

Good morning,

We hope that you find the summary video above this section to be helpful. It captures many of the very important items that are included in the update.

We do need each family to complete the UChicago Impact 5 Essentials Survey. Thank you to those who have completed it. We need each parent's feedback! Please take a little time to complete the survey today! Here is the link:

http://survey.5-essentials.org/archchicago/survey/parent/

We are registering for the 2021-2022 school year. The first step will be to complete the registration Google form and pay the $50 fee (toward the registration fee). Please click the link here. After the form is complete and the deposit is paid, we will contact families to review financial plans and other information. For those who already completed the Google form, we will be calling to set up the next steps. We will encourage virtual/phone registration for everyone's safety.

Registration is open to new families, too. Do you know a new family, especially a preschool or kindergarten family? You will receive a $300 referral credit for any new family that registers!

GoGuardian has been added to our school computer management system. This program helps us maximize instructional time while providing safeguards for students. One of our goals is to develop good Digital Citizens. Teachers are using the program to set up "scenes" in the classroom that focus students on the webpages/applications needed during class. Over the weekend, we did block access to YouTube using school devices and emails. Please remember the school email, accounts, and devices should only be used for school-related work.

As a reminder school opens for morning care at 6:15 AM. The doors open for students at 7:30 AM. Breakfast will be available until 7:50. Classes start promptly at 8. Students must be in class at 8 AM. Tardiness disrupts the entire class. Tardiness was an issue this past week. Students must be in school and on-time. Please help us improve our on-time attendance rate!

All students will enter through the front doors until further notice. We will have extra cleaning focused on that area with the increased number of students using the steps/handrails there. Once the weather has warmed up consistently, we will begin using Little Marcy Park again.

At this point in time, there is no returning to the building for e-learners. The date to return was 2/22. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. Students who are in-person learning may not jump to e-learning on days they are out of school for illness or other reasons. That student will just be absent.

Thank you to all families that attended their virtual conference session. We know that a strong school-home partnership is key to student success. If you missed your conference, please email your child's teacher and set one up this week.

As a reminder, any person who is on our property must have their mask on properly (up over the nose) as we work to keep everyone safe. Please check Class Dojo each afternoon before dismissal.

The school office is open from 6:30 AM to 4 PM. Please call the office to make an appointment before stopping in.

Empower Illinois has started awarding the Tax Credit Scholarship to families! Check your emails! Once the family accepts the award in the student portal, we accept it on behalf of the school. At that point, contracts can be drawn up. We will begin sending out contracts for next year in the next couple of weeks. Any needed meetings will take place on the phone or on Zoom. Again, complete the link to the registration form and pay the $50 partial registration payment to get started.

Family financial contracts for this year must be up to date in order to complete the registration process for the 2021-2022 school year.

Registration is open to new families, too. Do you know a new family? You will receive a $300 referral credit for any new family that registers!

Family Plans for Spring Break - Please complete!

As we work to keep our faculty, staff, and children as safe as possible, we do need to have an understanding of each family's plans for spring break (April 1 - April 9).

At this point in time, there are many travel restrictions in place. If your family is an in-person learning family, please complete this form, to the best of your ability, as soon as possible.

Testing

Spring Assessment testing is fast approaching. This year all students in grades 3-8 will be taking the ACT Aspire Summative tests. The test window opens on April 19th and will run through April 30th.

Students in grades 3-8 who have a tax credit scholarship this year will also take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) in mid-March. This is required by the program. I will be contacting the students who are e-learners and need to take these tests. The students will need to come to the building with their Chromebooks. All students will be separated to ensure social distancing. The e-learners will remain in the building only to test and then will need to leave. We will call and email near the end of this week to set those plans.

Tuition - March 11th Exclusion

While we know that these are very challenging times, the financial health of the school is important to its longevity. Families with delinquent balances are being called to set up plans. Students will be excluded from in-person and e-learning on 3/11 if plans haven't been set up or paid as agreed. If there is a problem getting your tax-agreements paid due to the IRS, we can work with you.

The most important thing is that you stay in touch with us so we can develop a plan with you.

We value you and your family. These unprecedented times are challenging for everyone.
