November 2019
Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed
In this season of thankfulness, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the parents, community members and businesses for supporting Oster's Home and School Club Donation Drive. I am happy to report we reached our goal of $50,000. The monies raised will go directly to support this year's Art Vistas program, Library, Classroom Supplies, Field Trips, Project Cornerstone, Olympic Day, Harvest Festival, 1st Grade Opera, Emergency Supplies, 5th grade Science Camp, Teacher Appreciation, Adventure Games, Music Program, Theater Productions, International Night, After School Activities, Assemblies, and Math Olympics.
I would like to give a big THANK YOU to this year's Harvest Festival coordinators: Ariane Chapple, Jackie Miles, and Cady Burstein. Also, a big shout out to all the parent volunteers for putting in countless hours making this event a success. It was incredible to see so many students and their families enjoying the event.
Report Cards
The report cards from the first trimester will be going home today with students, Friday, November 15th. Please look over the Report Card with your child, and spend some time praising them for their accomplishments. It is also a good time to set reasonable goals for the remaining two trimesters. Whether your child brings home good grades or poor ones, your reaction may have a greater effect on your child than you realize. Your attitude, and how you talk and listen to them, can make a huge difference in how your child responds and sets goals for the future. Remember to put report cards in perspective. They measure how a student is doing in school. A report card does not measure a student's worth as an individual, nor does it judge your success as a parent.
Traffic Safety Reminders
Please be AWARE of the traffic and safety rules when dropping off and picking up students. Please adhere to the 15 mph speed limit driving around Oster. Use the crosswalks, be aware of neighborhood driveways and red zones, and keep the bus zone clear in the morning and afternoon drop off and pick up window. Also, If your student rides their bike to school please make sure they are wearing a helmet and following the rules of the road (stopping at stoplights and using crosswalks).
Oster's Garden Update
The gardens continue to grow more and more beautiful with each passing season as they mature. October was bountiful with tomatoes, apples, lemongrass, and radishes. Hopefully, you were lucky enough to snag a sample from the farmstand basket. Our teachers completed their first training with Life Lab from UC Santa Cruz and will have 2 more in the Spring. October 2nd was our fall garden work day. It was a fun evening filled with planting, repairing, and watering as well as pizza eating and committee meetings for things to come! If you are interested in getting more involved in the garden team at Oster email rebecca.lynn.taylor@gmail.com.
