Kansas Nebraska act
- Stephen Douglas waiting to ensure the transcontinental railroad route and to introduce a bill to organize the territory of Nebraska
- it was 1854 bill that mandated popular sovereignty allowing settlers of a territory to decide weather slavery would be allowed
- this lead to violence and Kansas was now known as bleeding Kansas
Dred Scott Case
- Dred scott was a black slave that was sold who got in to legal trouble because he sued his owners wife mrs. Eppersons
- the case was because he wanted his freedom they allowed it because of a Missouri situated that allowed that slaves black or white could sue for their freedoms
- he signed a petition that that indicated that he felt that he should be free
Vicksburg
- this was also known as the siege of Vicksburg was the culmination of a long land and navel campaign by the union forces
- Vicksburg, Mississippi, was an important, well-protected fortress for the Confederate Army during the Civil War. On May 19, 1863, Union General Ulysses S. Grant attacked Vicksburg a direct assault with intent to take over the city.
