READ-A-THON HAS BEGUN!!
Reading for the Read-a-Thon begins TODAY! We hope students will have fun reading for the next 10 days and participating in this event to support fundraising for the PTO. The PTO has lots of fun prizes in store for those who participate and classrooms that meet their goals. This event in large pays for extra service project buses, assemblies, student supplies, and much more! We thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
Reading
This week in reading we continued our fantasy book clubs! We talked about learning alongside the main character and the importance of keeping track of the multiple plot lines, characters, and problems in the stories! We met as book clubs to set some goals to push our discussions further! Some kids even finished their first book! We also read from our mentor text, which the kids LOVE! :)
Math
We finished our BIG module this week on multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals. The students worked very hard on their assessment. We also began our next module on area and volume. To introduce volume, the students looked at centimeter cubes and realized that each cube represents a cubic centimeter. We built different rectangular prisms and saw the relationship between volume and the number of cubes. We ended the week by looking at two solid non-overlapping figures to determine one combined volume.
IXL Skills: EE.13 - EE.15
Writing
This week in writing we started our Literary Essay unit! We introduced the unit by looking at an exemplar piece and talking about what makes a literary essay! Then we talked about all of the work that we need to do BEFORE we can write a literary essay, and started looking at the mentor text, The Paper Bag Princess.
