The natural resources

Mostly mining, agriculture, timber, and biodiversity, was the original answer. The correct answer is under this:

The natural resources of South Africa are: gold, chromium, antimony, coal, iron ore, manganese, nickel, phosphates, tin, uranium, gem diamonds, platinum, copper, vanadium, salt, and natural gas.

The Nature

South Africa has a biodiversity (both flora and fauna) unrivaled anywhere on earth.
The list of mammals alone is staggering, including some of earth's most majestic creatures.

The lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena are foremost among the predators, while elephant, giraffe, hippo and rhino are among the world's largest land animals. Then come zebra, antelope species by the score, and a variety of birds and smaller animals too numerous to mention. Huge Nile crocodiles lurk in the rivers, while many species of birds of prey soar, scanning the earth for their next meal as well as insects by the virtual truck-load.

An indicative list included:

Mammals: Lion, Leopard, Water Buffalo, Cheetah, Hyena, Elephant, Rhinoceros Hippopotamus, Zebra, Antilope, African Wild Dog, Giraffe.

Reptiles: Crocodiles, African python, Cape Cobra

Birds: Blue Crane

Contrary to popular belief gorilla, bears and tigers do not originate, nor are they found naturally in Southern Africa
